I think I'm going to try to get a good quality Morgan O dollar from every year they were minted. That's my goal for the next year or so.

I've thought about putting together a Morgan series but thought I'd start with Eagles since they're more plentiful. My wallets going to take a hit when I get to the 2006 coin set with the regular proof, reverse proof and standard eagle as well as the 2012 set with the regular proof and reverse proof.

After I finish the eagle proof series I'm going to move on to completing a silver state quarter series with proofs.

rmc: Yes, get the penny book, and go on ebay and buy a bag of 5000 pennies (wheat) to look for dates. Should be around $200.

Since we are on the subject of coins - I just looked at my silver coins - they are turning color - darker esp the larger ones. I have had them for 20 years and they have been fine. I always assumed you dont ever clean coins - same rule for this? (silver coins turning?)

Toning is normal. Some people will pay extra for a natural toned coin and depending on how the toning looks increases the value of the coin to a collector. And yes, just like cleaning your coins (never ever clean your coins), don't clean or try to remove the toning.

How do you guys make sure your coins on eBay haven't been cleaned before you purchase them? Can you really tell from a picture.

Alright, fess up, which two of you have bought this since I posted it?

Went to drool over the coins some more and the number in stock dropped from 5 to 3.

I honestly do not think that is a very good deal. Ive been doing a ton of auction watching, and you can get uncirculated, excellent condition coins for $60 (except for a few obvious years).

Just guessing, but I doubt your going to get anything that would put the value over what you are paying.

I'd imagine it would be a better deal to pick them up one by one off of Ebay or whatnot

No doubt. I am not expecting a key date or anything. Best I could find though is the CC coins seem to be very expensive.

Yeah, from what I've seen, usually 5 or 6 times what the others are.

Still $380 for 5 coins:

If the CC you get is worth $200, you are still paying $45 for each of the others, plus shipping which is ridiculous on APMEX.

Doesn't seem like a great deal to me, but I'm new to all of this.

And if my math is correct, that total is 7,556,000.

Considering that in 1879 alone 14,806,000 were minted in Philadelphia alone, I would say that is pretty good.

BTW, thanks for that link!!
