I have full sets (no error coins) in Whitman books of the following:
Indian Head Cent (1856-1909)
(2) Lincoln Cents (1909-mid 1970's) - one set is missing 1909-S VDB
Liberty Head Nickels (1883-1913)
(4)Jefferson Nickles (1938-1964)
Mercury Dimes (1916-1945)
Roosevelt Dimes (1946-mid 1970's)
Washington Head Quarter (1932 - Mid 1970's)
Liberty Halves (1937-1947)

Peace Dollar (1921-1935)
Various (nothing rare) double eagles, quarter eagles and dollar gold pieces

I am not a big fan of the silver eagles because they never circulate. They are nice coins and lots of people collect them, but they are all MS and minted to be collected so I don't see how they will have the numismatic value of the coins that actually circulated. However I do want the 1995-W and might buy one at a weak moment.
The only thing I've ever sold is the 2006 Silver Eagle 3 coin set w/ reverse proof....I have no intention of ever selling anything else it all has too much sentimental value. But I do hope to get my Daughter interested in it one day so she doesn't sell it all and go buy a bunch of worthless junk.

No worries. I wish I could break down each batch of coins individually to gives dates and kind and what have you but got damn, there is just so much here.

We all start at the same place. My parents started buying for me at around 3 years old. I pick up stuff here and there.

Do you keep your coins at home or in a bank safe deposit box?
My neighbor kept his at home until his house was burglarized one morning. The burglars took every coin he had.
I go back and forth with mine leaving my collection in my safe deposit box most of the time but taking it out whenever I need to add new additions, or if I just want to look at some of the coins again.

Too much stuff for a Safe Deposit box. I keep them in a small fireproof safe (good stuff) and then a few lockable boxes. We have a home alarm though. It's not safe but it's just what I do. I like being able to come home and just look at it. Or take pictures like today. I also dropped a fricking box on my shin.

Some of the pictures posted in this thread of Ebay purchases are not great conditioned coins. Are the purchases being made due to being able to pick them up for cheaper than silver spot pricing in hopes of making a return if silver jumps up with the economy? I have been collecting for 20 years and have always gone by quality over quantity. Will post pictures soon.

I kept most of mine at home until last year when the collector in Gonzales was robbed and killed for his coins. After that mine went back to the safety deposit box.
Also, I agree with the previous poster to go in after quality, not quantity. I have a price guide from 1969 and the stuff that was expensive then is expensive now and the good stuff appreciates at faster rate. Of course, when you are new to the hobby it's a lot more rewarding to see a full allbum than empty space.

Not in my case. I just enjoy the coins for their history, artwork and beauty.
I've never sold a coin and have no plans to ever sell a coin regardless of what metal prices do.

Broke, how did you go about getting most of your coins? Coin shows? Ebay? Interwebzz?
I keep all, ha ha, of my coins in a fireproof safe right now. I also have an alarm on my house, soooo I feel pretty good about having them at the house for now. I too, like being able to look and hold them once or twice a week.
I have no plans to sell anything I have unless it could make me a multi-millionaire, so in other words, I will not sell them. For me, it is more trying to start something to leave for my family that could be passed down for generations. I want to leave more than just a check or money. Something with some sentimental value.

I have never bought from Ebay but my guess is that these guys are just starting their collections and it's cheaper than buying a MS65 from a dealer. And that's totally fine. They will eventually pick up one really nice piece. Then another, then another.

Most were gifts from my parents bought from Louisiana Gold and Gem (I think that is the name) and from individual dealers. I've picked some up from flea markets over the years but the bulk from Louisiana Gold. Which is crazy overpriced imo.

To me, being new to the hobby, all of my pieces are nice to me! After looking around I have set my sights on some CC pieces and hopefully after a nice tax return this year and I will get one.
As of now, I only allow myself $100-150 a month, making it very hard to get some nice pieces. I also have other goals with that money currently such as acquiring silver until I get about 50 oz. Eventually, I will really start getting into the "good" stuff.

See, to me that is awesome! My goal this year is instead of the "traditional" Christmas gifts for my kids and nieces and nephews, is finding some Morgan or Peace dollars and giving them instead. We usually spend around $50 for niece and nephew anyway, so it would be perfect! My problem is getting my wife on board.
Russian mentioned earlier that he likes to give gifts that are realted to birth years and what not, and that is so neat. Something I have never thought about before. Granted, the kids will probably open them now and treat them as if it is clothes inside, or try to spend it, but one day, it could really mean something to them.

They will. But a day will come when they really feel like you did a great thing. It took me years to realize what my parents were doing. And if you look at my stuff, I have some really cool things that I really enjoy looking at. I love my El Cazador piece. It's surprisingly my only graded coin. I should get the Huguenot coin graded because it's a pretty rare piece too.
