I shouldn't be shocked by that.

I also don't think it's that far-fetched to see a school cover something like this up.

what are they covering up?

there is a an ongoing criminal prosecution with 2 suspects in custody. this wasn't swept under the rug or anything

I don't either. It's an unfortunate situation, but we've got a system and it is doing something. If something more is needed, which is not clear in this case to anyone but the people with their hands on all the information, then hopefully it gets done.

However, to rationalize and justify vigilante hacker groups made up of people who (1) are probably not mature, (2) are probably not trained/educated in the areas of law or law in general (3) are already breaking the law and (4) not beholden to anyone is a terrible idea itself. To allow this to happen would lead to anarchy state.

It should be understood by all educated people that the default action of any group, organization, business, government, etc. is to preserve itself which means that cover ups are actually the norm and not the exception.

i don't disagree with that, and i expected some damning story that follows the typical traits

but it seems like there is a legit prosecution of two persons going on, with trials set for early 2013

according to the NYT, the police chief actively asked for more information and didn't get much

That's fine. I'm just trying to illustrates similarities between the state and vigilante groups. One day it'll hit you and the cognitive dissonance will be extremely uncomfortable and you'll either reject the notion of the state or rationalize it further.

yeah, because I'm some 14 year old girl with zero life experience. I mean really, up to right now this life has been virtually perfect and luckily I have yet to witness any corruption or atrocities in the world. I fear the day when I'm suddenly awakened to this "cognitive dissonance" that will make me so extremely uncomfortable. I pray that at that moment, God (the guy you don't believe in) will grant me some self awareness and I can buck conformity and realize how truly alone we are on this earth. And frick THE POLICE!

Just because there is a criminal prosecution doesn't mean that information isn't being covered up. I don't know all of the facts and neither do you, but from the videos it looks like more than two members could easily be hit with a conspiracy charge.

And props to them for doing that!

And if the chief was genuine in his request, then props to him too.

The issue it seems (admittedly I have not watched Anon's vids and I really have no dog in this fight, I'm just debating to debate), is that perhaps it's not the police or prosecutors that are hindering the investigation but rather the townsfolk, the school faculty, etc.

This Anonymous group would be a good group to catch teams in illegal recruiting/money changing hands, etc. Beware AUB and Bama.

I understand, and I'm not saying that what anon is doing is the right thing. I just think it's a consequence of the internet and it will always be an issue that we have to live with.

With that being said, it happened. Anon might have dug up some information that could help in the prosecution of some more individuals.

There were like 10 people involved.

2 were charged.

4 kids took pictures and videos of the girl/rape in progress, the ex BF of this girl set all of it up to happen, and another kid gave full play by play while it was going on in a video he made.

None of them are in trouble, when they should be.

they acquired the information illegally with no chain of custody. you really think that's going to be admissible in court?

Yup!

What I find interesting when the topic of Anon comes up on this board is the vitriol directed towards them from most of the people here, however, when amateur sleuths participate in cases like the Mickey Shunick murder, the wild accusations and prodding is actively encouraged.

Why the difference in attitude?

how do we know this?

there likely isn't a crime going on there. at best possibly child porn, but that's an iffy prosecution in general

when they should be.

what crime did they commit if they had no part in the alleged rape?

And lets not forget the police "lost" one of the rape videos they confiscated.

Magically disappeared.

One group committed several crimes and the other didn't.

Well the ex BF planned it all, I'd imagine planning a rape is illegal.

But he'll end up being prosecuted before this is all over with how big it is blowing up, they can't cover it up for everyone, not now.
