Congrats to the Patriots

Congrats to the Patriots
Excerpts from the article:
quote:
After a dominating season that resulted in the program's 25th state title, River Ridge (La.) John Curtis Christian will have to clear room in the display case for its first High
School Football National Championship trophy.
quote:
John Curtis Christian, a small, faith-based school just a handful of miles west of New Orleans, was founded in 1962 by J.T. Curtis' dad, John.
The football program started in 1969. J.T. Curtis is the only coach the school has known. And there's a pretty good reason he's never been asked to leave.
Curtis has won 90 percent of the games he has coached, going 520-54-6 in 44 years. The record is even more impressive when you consider this: The team went 0-10 in its first year of existence.
It has been rolling ever since. Curtis has led the school to a state title 25 times across three levels. He has advanced to a state-title game the past 17 seasons, winning 13 times.
quote:
The team that took the field this year was one of the most talented in the nation. It could have as many as 17 players sign college scholarships -- six seniors are committed to FBS-level programs, two have offers, six players in the Class of 2014 have offers and one from the Class of 2015 does as well.
quote:
If there is another player who could join him on Sundays, it would be inside linebacker Kenny Young, who led a defense that scored as many touchdowns (3) as it allowed. Factoring in four special teams touchdowns, the offensive scoring was superfluous.
quote:
"It really is something that you don't think about, but it has some kind of magical feeling to it," Curtis said. "To win the highest award you can achieve as a high school team is special. It is humbling to have it happen and have your name mentioned in the same class as other really great teams nationally.
"I am proud of this team and honored to be given this title."

So wait...JC has been to the Dome 17 times in a row? Thats freaking crazy...

They wouldn't get to the Dome every year if they had to go through the 5A playoffs.

Yeah, they've at least played for a state championship 17 straight years.

I didn't really follow High School football on the national level this year. Who were the other 4 or 9 in the top 5 or 10?
Does anyone feel good guaranteeing that JC would beat those teams? I'm not trolling or anything, I'm just curious how good this team really was, from the perspective of non homers....

Of course their private school started around the time of integration. Racist arse holes.

Like I said in the previous thread on this, Rummel and Barbe could combine their rosters and Curtis would still beat them this year.
Would they go to the Dome every year going through 5A? Probably not. But they easily would've this year.

How do you know that? I didn't go to the game, but I heard Evangel's QB was pretty efficient against the Curtis defense before he got hurt. It would have been a good game between either Rummel or Barbe this year.

No one knows anything for sure. That said, this is based upon opinions from both a former LSU QB and local New Orleans sportswriter who followed all three teams in great detail this entire season.

For people that have seen both Rummel and JC play, how badly would JC beat Rummel?
I ask because i saw Rummel and Ouachita play, and ive also seen a lot of Texas teams play. Its my opinion that the following teams i've seen play would easily beat Rummel.
Southlake Carroll
Desoto
West Mesquite
John Tyler
Longview
Mesuite Poteet
Katy
Allen
Dallas Skyline
Houtson Lamar
Cedar Hill
Cedar Park
Lancaster
Georgetown
Denton Guyer
Euless Trinity
Frisco Centennial
Mesquite High
Prosper
maybe Rummel just played poorly against Ouachita.
I know this Curtis team is supposed to be great, and i admittedly havent seen them play, but they would have to be pretty damn great to beat the teams i listed.
And Allen's trip through the playoffs included wins over DeSoto, Skyline, Mesquite and Houston Lamar.

Curtis would have rolled up 400+ rushing on Barbe, IMO.

So Texas doesn't have only one state champion? Why don't the division champs play?
Posted on 12/24/12 at 1:50 pm to brewhan davey
I'll put Katy against any team in the country.

Same reason the LA 5A state champ doesn't play the 4A state champ after the season.
