I shoot the hornady superformance 130gr SST ammo in my .270. It works great for me.

I am shooting 150 gr. core-lokts out of my .270 this year, but only because I had two boxes in my house for several years and had never used them. When I shoot them up, I am moving back to 130 gr. because I don't need the extra penetration for small whitetail deer. I have shot two deer this year, the first ran about 30 yards and the second one dropped on the spot. Both deer had small entrance and exit wounds.

Edit: Just saw that you mentioned hogs. Go with the 150 gr. Core-lokts.

I had 2 friends swear by the silver tips and both shot 270s and never dropped deer. Made me dislike 270s until I realized it was the bullet not the caliber

.270 150gr federal blue box round nose is one of the most effective deer rounds I've ever seen.

Went to buy some this season and academy didn't have any. Went with core lokts again. Gonna give em a try next time

If that is directed at me, I don't have any issues with 150 gr. .277 bullets in general for deer. Since he mentioned core-lokts though, I would choose the 130 gr. between the two.

No not you in particular.

The .270 is a fantastic deer caliber and most of the loads out there are very good.

The 150 grain 270 bullet is not known to be a good whitetail round. Personally,I've seen some horrible performance out of them.

How it shoots? Or once it hits the target?

Hell, I've not seen one in the deer woods in about 20 years.

Once it hits. Like the other fella said. No trauma. No blood. I don't see the upside.

Can't go wrong with the 130 gr Pointed soft point core locks.

ETA: with Rem 700 .270. Last 6 or 7 dropped on the spot. All under 150 yards. Some of those shots were with less than perfect shot placement and they still died before they heard the shot.

130 silver ballistics

Probably the worst bullet out there. It's hard tracking a deer with no exit wound and the rarely drop em

I have no 150gr experience outside of the federal blue box round noses, which are spectacular performers and IMO one of the best whitetail factory loads available for any caliber.

One thing I know for sure is that if you're getting less than exceptional performance from a .270win you either need to learn how to shoot or change bullets.

30-06

used to shoot 180
then moved to 165 ballistic tip

Now shoot 150 ballistic tip. Accurate as hell at long distances. Exit is huge. Almost always drop the deer instantly. Ive even dropped them on subpar shots before
