Okay beer guys... How did I do...?

So earlier last week I stumbled across Chimay Blue Trappist beer and was very fond of it. Today a friend dropped by and said he was going to the best beer store in Tampa and that he "has the hook up there". I told him I really liked the Chimay and would like to try a few more Trappist beers. I handed him $25 and here's what he came back with..
He told me that the two on the right are "abbey" beers which are like the Trappist but not "officially" recognized. He also explicitly told me not to refrigerate them until I was going to drink them. He indicated they'll get better with age, that true?

That costs more than $25
I figured that may be the case, some friends are better to you than you deserve but he does do quite a bit of business with that shop and is "in the industry" as it were.

thats a great set of beers you got there
rochefort 10
and if you got all that for $25, you either owe your friend some money or he has a damn good hookup

I'm actually touring that brewery after the holidays. The CC Maduro is pretty popular locally.

I think that Chimay gift set may run more than $25 by itself.
Very good beers BTW, but idk anything about the Maredsous

Westmalle dubbel is my personal fav. But all are good except the Maredsous which is a notch below the others IMO. Get the St. Bernardous Christmas Ale if you can find.

Nice haul. Yes those beers will do well aged. You may see some sediment in the Rocheforts so don't freak out. The Chimay gift pack alone was close to $25. Merry Christmas!

Anyone know if that Chimay set is available in NOLA? Interested in purchasing.

Being this time of the year, you should try to pick up some Belgian Christmas seasonal's.
Delerium Noel, St. Bernardus Christmas Ale, Affligem Noel, Scaldis Noel, Corsendonk...all tasty beverages.
Unibroue is a Canadian brewery that also does very solid Belgians available year round in most markets.

I've done Yeungling a few times now. The tour includes a few free beers at the end!

Tried the Chimay yellow and the Rochefort 6 thus far. The yellow was okay, but the Rochefort is lovely. Excellent beer.. Gonna do the Chimay red next...

Its interesting what you see in local markets. Here in Tampa we pay a premium for Abita. I've never understood it. Whenever I travel to LA I bring back Abita for friends here in Tampa. I don't know what the regs are for shipping beer but many of the CC beers are cheap and easy to find here in Tampa. A case of you always want what you can't have I suppose...
