Serious question for the AR, AK, SKS folks

What's the big deal about owning an "assault" rifle? Is it greed that's causing the rush to get one before they are possibly banned? Is it to arm yourself for war with the govt, aliens, Mayan?
Not flaming or trolling just curious. If guns are being banned I wanna get guns I can use such as hunting weapons.

For me, its more about having one in the house before they are not available to acquire. If I waited until the summer like I wanted to, and some sort of ban was passed, then I would either A) Never have one, or B) Have to shell out about 400% of its original cost.

Lets say there's a financial collapse. Moneys no good and food and water are hard to come by. You've got aeon ugh to get you and your by, but all the democrats on the other side of town haven't been so responsible. When they come to get their "welfare allotment" I'm gonna be damn sure I'm at least armed as well as they are.

1st of all, you are absolutely correct. It is a direct infringement on our rights as US citizens.
As for reasons?
They're fun to shoot, and many people enjoy them as a hobby so it makes since that they would try to get it before a possible ban.
They're versatile weapons systems that can be used to do anything from hunting small game to being used as a means of self defense.
In a SHTF scenario I couldn't tell you who would have the BEST chance of survival but I CAN tell you that it wouldn't be people without weapons such as te ones listed.
