My buddy has a 25-06 that he swears by. It's a marlin. It's a nice shooting gun. Anybody on here use one as your deer rifle? I normally use a 7mm, but was thinking about one of these also. Seems like it would be a good 2nd gun and one for the rare occasion the wife wants to go shoot.

My dad hunted with one for years. It was a savage and he never had a problem with it. I think he shot the 120 grain corelokts? He switched to a 270 later but not due to the fault of the 25-06.

Used to hunt with my uncles Browning A bolt .25-06. Killed several deer with it. He killed a few including bucks. No probs at all.

I had a tikka .25-06 for two years that I parted ways with. The gun shot well and recoil was very mild even in that light arse rifle. I used hornady 117gr SSTs and they were horrible. I killed four deer and a 305lb hog with it and the only exit I got was a neck shot on one of the deer while it was flopping around on the pipeline.

Now I am by no means blaming the caliber but rather the load I was using. If you end up with a .25-06 I suggest you avoid them like the plague.

Also you have to be careful when shopping for ammo because there are usually varmint loads on the shelf right next to the deer loads.

Find the right load and you might start hanging up your 7mag in favor of the quarter-bore. They are a real pleasure to shoot.

My dad hunts with one and has killed several deer and pigs out to 350 yards without any issues.

I have used one for years. It's a youth rifle I was given at 8. Shot a .270 for a few years and went back to the .25-06. I like it because its small and compact, and most of my hunting is done out of treestands. I've shot a handful of deer in the #250 range without tracking more than 20-40 yards. I don't take many long shots, but I've wacked a few out to 150 yards. You won't here any complaints from this guy.

I've not shot a xl7, but i've heard they are not bad guns. Probably on par with most of the $300-400 rifles.

I liked the round but went with a 30-06 when I bought my next one just because there were several times I had to make several stops to find ammo for the 25 or couldn't find any at all. That just pisses me off when I'm in a hurry.

We have a Remington Sendero 25-06. I think it is overkill for deer. In my experience, it blows them more to shite than my 7-mm mag
