You have to have the application open when you go to sleep.
So I have it open on the analog clock thing just before I go to sleep and hit the power button put the vita to sleep... but the alarm program is still active.

hmmm... It's weird. I mean, I got the notification that my alarm was going off, and I turned it off and all that before the 5 minutes.
My stats show that I haven't used it at all:
days used: 0
Early risings: 0
Overslept: 0
etc....
really weird
