I had my alarm set for 6 AM Eastern time. Is the application supposed to stay on at all times, or what?

You have to have the application open when you go to sleep.
So I have it open on the analog clock thing just before I go to sleep and hit the power button put the vita to sleep... but the alarm program is still active.
