Isn't it a known and accepted fact that organisms pass on traits to their offspring, and over a period of time those traits suited to the environment continue to develop while those that don't fall off?
Yes.

So my question is why is the theory of evolution still a theory? Like I said, honest question. Not trolling.

It's fine in a comparative religions class, or a world history class covering the creation myths of various early civilizations. It's not science, and shouldn't be in a science class.

Creationism is not a religion.

Yes they do. There is an order of things in creation. Either science agrees, disagrees, or does not know.

Genesis states light came first. Is that true or false? Does science know enough to judge that statement.

Creation myth? Again, if you can step up to prove it wrong, then you can call it a myth.

By all accounts, the person who wrote genesis had nowhere near the amount of knowledge we have today. Nobody can argue that. Yet, the account he gives of creation aligns very much so with known sciences.

So I will ask you again.... Show the paper wrong. Start at the beginning. Light. Is that accurate according to science? Does light precede life?

Day and night....and the planet for that matter, existing before the sun and stars?

Seed bearing plants being there from the start (in fact, they were one of the most recent type of plants to emerge.)

That land based plants existed before the sun and life in the ocean?

That birds existed before land animals?

That humans were originally exclusively vegetarians?

Pretty much the only statement that "aligns" with science is the statement that light came first.

And they don't even agree about where that light came from, as it was several days before the first star appeared.

Not sure if you understand what a myth is.

King Arthur is a myth, even though we can't disprove that there was an 6th century Anglo-leader that held off the invasion of the Saxons and built a kingdom out of the British isles.

I know what a myth is.

Thank you for being one to step up and make an argument.

If it's ok with you let's begin at the beginning.

Since that's the first act listed, then let's start there.

We agree then?

So you were deliberately obfuscating the issue when you stated/implied that something needs to be disproven in order to be considered a myth.

Gotchya.

All I needed to know.

Really? we are going to go there, or would you actually like to go into what's being debated?

We agreed light must be first.

What's the first "issue" with the creation account that you feel science is at odds with?

re: Orleans Parish School Board votes to ban creationism

Nope.

Like I said, I've seen enough.

You are too disingenuous to be worth debating.

Both for the "tangent" of claiming to know what a myth was when you obviously don't (or the not-better alternative of flat out lying hoping you wouldnt get called out on it) and for your desire to run around in circles.

I've essentially said what you are asking me already. But you would rather focus on getting a direct response to your original statement (as if it wouldn't be a pyrrhic victory) than to actually continue the discussion by responding in full to my first post in the thread.

I've dealt with a lot of science/religion threads, and the only reason why I'm still sane is because I back out when the other person isn't going to be intellectually honest.

It just isn't worth my time to beat my head against the mental walls of those who lie to themselves so effectively they don't even realize it.

In your words... NOPE!

It's my background, so no... I lie not to myself!

"New" rules of debating: "If you can not explain your position or defend your position, attack the other person." In this respect, you are doing well.

Actually, I pointed out that we agreed and asked you to move to the next issue. You made a lot of statements with no context.

This is what I mean:

Explain where you feel that's being stated by the author of the account!

quote:

Seed bearing plants being there from the start (in fact, they were one of the most recent type of plants to emerge.)

Again, according to what part of the account and information given are you getting that from?

You gave out a general statement and no reference back to the work!

Meh, I just don't understand why the two can't be taught side by side, and that's coming from a believer in evolution.

Because one is science, and the other is religion. On top of that, there are multitudes of religious creation stories...do we teach them ALL, or just...you know...the preferred one?

Do we do the same with heliocentrism versus geocentrism? I've been following a debate on Youtube with a fairly educated guy who espouses geocentrism in the face of all known facts. Why you ask...? Because it says so in The Bible. Does it constitute a "controversy" because there are still some who believe the earth is the center of the universe and thus we must teach it...or can we move on?

Surprising with Louisiana having such a "religious" population. At least that was my impression...
