NBA Files Trademarks for crazy names and Pelicans

The five names included the favorite Pelicans, a mascot that ties into the state bird as well as a minor league baseball team that existed from 1887 to 1959, but the four others also have strong Louisiana ties.
The trademarks:
New Orleans Pelicans
New Orleans Rougarou
New Orleans Mosquitos
New Orleans Swamp Dogs
New Orleans Bullsharks

I thought for sure this was complete BS, but I just did a search at the US PTO on Rougarou and they filed on December 5th

I just checked the other names at the USPTO and they all were applied for by the Hornets.

A NOLA area journalist/blogger should have definitely broken this. Knowing a rebrand is coming all it would take was doing a search for New Orleans on the USPTO site once a day and you'd have had a scoop last week.
