re: Official AR-15 thread

Going through a lot of old files and reports that document the history of the M16. Seems that even though ball powder caused somewhat more fouling (though over lubrication contributed to the priblems too) the choice was made because the ball powder was the only consistent performing propellant that could be furnished en masse. Dupont could not provide IMR powders that met performance standards consistantly from lot to lot and many of those lots failed the 1000 round fouling tests too.
