I personally think he will remain with the New Orleans Saints, but for the sake of discussion:

Let's say IF Sean does leave, and he joins with the Cowboys, a team most of us hate, how much anger and animosity will you have toward him?

I'd compare such a situation to the Saban/LSU ordeal. He leaves, goes to the NFL (helps the Saints out in the process) but fails, and then signs with Alabama. After signing with Alabama, LSU fans referred to him as "Satan" and other such names. He is hated by LSU fans to the highest degree. I think if Payton were to leave, after being the head of the reason for this mess of a season we've had to endure, I'd probably hate the man. He owes more years to this team. I care about the Saints way more than I do LSU, so this would hurt me much more.

How angry would you be? And, would we start a mob because I have a lynch and rope.

He brought the Saints a SuperBowl, something many fans hoped for but never believed would actually happen. Considering Goodell is the one that voided the contract, I think more people will be mad at Goodell than Payton, especially if Benson follows through with his threat and sues the league if Payton leaves.

I would imagine Brees definitely talked with Payton to make sure he was coming back before signing his extension. If Payton leaves, Brees will probably be pretty pissed.

if he did leave. I can guarentee it wont be for the cowboys. Jones needs a puppet. Payton dont play that. So all this SP to dallas talk is just stupid.

not a good metaphor, IMO. saban left to go to the NFL. not to bama. had he moved laterally to Bama initially, then it would be a different story. LSU's fans hatred of Saban is irrational.

Payton leaving would be worse, in terms of pure vitriol, given the current climate.

It's hypothetical, I don't think he will leave. Just asking how pissed you'd be if he did. The Cowboys are the team brought up the most. but I'd be pissed no matter where he'd go. As Breesus stated any times, the only guy I'd be ok with if Payton were to leave would be Gruden, and I'd still be upset.

I understand what you are saying, but I am comparing it because it is in-state related, and we have some angry people around here in terms of sports. He left LSU for the NFL, but then quickly comes back to an SEC rival, which added to why LSU fans were so angry. He went to an opponent. I agree LSU fans are irrational, not only with Saban, but in general most are that way. And I agree this would be danger, especially given the situation.

the biggest thing to me wouldn't be Payton leaving...it would be Payton leaving after a year of being off. if he leaves after just stringing the saints along for a year, when the franchise could have moved on...that would be the ultimate douche bag move.

I would not be very angry, because this is a business. The coaches, players, announcers, etc. are not fans of any team. They hire agents to get the best deal and the most money. If they were fans, they would not have agents.

When fans have agents and sell their services to the highest bidder, then you'll have a situation where fans are like coaches and players of any particular team.
