These days serving in the military seems to be a meal ticket for life. Wish they would have had that plan back when I was in the military. Just because you serve in the military shouldn't mean you get a free pass for the rest of your life. Unless you got a arm blown off or something like that you shouldn't be able to ride the system. Dude I work with is using the apnea angle also. No better than SSD or workmans comp collectors IMO.

Nailed it.

Go with the "Wild Sex" option. The other option is unpleasant.

I know many feel we should cut regular entitlements but, should this include VA disability as well?

The New Left Radicals currently running the country will identify and exploit every crease and crack in the armor of their political enemies.

Military, military retirees, veterans and those who support them are all enemies of the New Left Radicals currently running the country.

What does S. Alinsky teach? Isolate the target and destroy it. How do you create an environment that allows cuts to VA benefits? Exploit the "Right Wing" aversion to welfare programs and demonize VA benefits as a wasteful welfare pay-out program full of fraud and abuse.

Once you get different factions (of those who are NOT among the New Left) fighting about various aspects of the VA benefit program, YOU who wield the political power may implement the cuts with a minimum of adverse consequences. Your enemies themselves have characterized the program as wasteful, and YOU get to take the CREDIT for cutting a wasteful program !

It's politically brilliant, AND a way to cut the Vets ( who are not your political allies ) and give the money saved to your political constituents !

"New Left Radicals" - is that from some 60's John Birch publication's glossary. The only people who seem to know or care about Alinsky are posters on this board who sophomorically refer to people as "statist". As a moderate( I know on this board that is as rare as a Yeti), people like myself or to the left of my views believe that a vet can have 4 limbs and still be disabled. It was some libertarian punk from Arizona that thinks our disabled vets should seek charity. Those cheering when our naive, draft dodging, cod piece wearing president pretended to land on the carrier beneath a banner declaring "mission accomplished" are the ones who are using an anecdote about a coworker to question the validity of tens of thousands who served honorably and now suffer as a result of that service. I knew that "mission accomplished" was in fact "this is just the beginning" and it was a tragic mistake but whatever our views we all have to pay for the consequences. Don't get all goose pimply, and lapel flag wearing patriotic and then when faced with the real consequences of war question the legitimacy of the casualities. I know there are people who game any system, but the sh..y coworker smoking a pack a day with breathing problems matters little compared to a deserving vet having trouble getting the benefits and medical care he deserves. Using anecdotes to shape your political views or make public policy is just stupid.

I'm very familiar with how the system works. I am sasking you how a person goes from 80 to 100?

There are specific critera for each ailment and each level of disability. What does the disabled do to change his rating.

You just don't get an increase unless you meet new criteria.

How does your back patient accomplish that? Wild sex, throw himself off of a building and land on his back?

His back continued to degenerate. I "think" he started out at 40% then 60% then 80%. But at each point he resisted increasing his disability level because he wanted to work (or go to school earlier on) but then decided it wasn't worth it and petitioned to increased his percentage. To be clear, he wasn't abusing the system (imho). He had a disability.

So, I am not sure what your point is. I am not makeing the "there is a lot of abuse" point. I am saying, even if they deserve it, the disability payment is a disincentive to work. I could see how torn up this guy was. He wanted to work, but it was hard to resist the "free" money.

I am not happy with the system, but honestly don't have a better solution.

re: How does the Poli board feel about military disability?

I have seen abuse of military disability and it digusts me. I personally know of someone who got out of the Navy for "migraines" in 1997 after 3 years of service. This person has been receiving $700 a month since. This person goes out and parties all the time, but comes down with a migraine when work gets tough. That's $126K tax free for a sham! There are hundreds of thousands out there like this person.

VA doctors are culpible in this rip off of the American taxpayers. Billions in fraud could be saved if there was some accountability.

And yes, i served for 20 years, so i've seen it way too much. If you whine and bitch enough you can get disability, even if you're perfectly fine.

I am not speaking of those who have been honestly injured in the line of duty. I fully support disability of those members.

Get with the program.. learn to separate ideas into short paragraphs. Notice how nearly everyone else posts? It makes it one million times easier to digest.

If you read the thread, I think what is being questioned is just how 'disabled' some of them really are.. and some are wondering if these people that aren't really disabled are taking away limited resources from people that are truly disabled from serving our country. I think the topic of abuse has been discussed in depth.
