well now that you say "heavily regional", no i won't disagree but yes the sport is popular nation wide. you won't know b/c obviously you don't pay any attention to it. that's fine by me but you sound really ignorant. and you should stop calling golf a sport then too

I think it will take several years before rugby gets really big but not 20-25. Just in the last 5 years the growth has been amazing. In talking with people I dont know, they either play or have a family member play.

golf still requires human skill. A lot more in fact than NASCAR does.

Brah, you sound like you just got into it and loved the budweiser party and rednecks screaming. That's cool and all, but do realize that most people do not give a frick about it nationwide. You sound like LSU baseball fans FWIW.

You don't just step off the football field and start playing 80 minutes with the First XV. Start them off early in the season getting in shape with everyone else. Early matches get them playing, say, 20 minutes with the second (or if your team has one, third) side and start working up from there. Because good clubs focus on fitness and fundamentals, by the end of the season, those big fellas can handle a half or maybe even 60 minutes. After a second season, they may be able to go a full match, and be beastly, because they have a great combination of size and explosiveness.

NASCAR also has the problem that its harder for people to work on their cars. there's still a dedicated group of "car guys", but cars are now so sophisticated, its much rarer for people to have working on cars as a hobby. And one of the things that drove NASCAR's popularity is, obviously, car guys. And automoting or whatever you call it, as a hobby, is in decline. Rugby is still 20-30 years away. That's not a knock, that's just how slowly things work. Take basketball, which first started to gain popularity in the 60s and then with the more opened up game in the 70s. It didn't become huge until the late 80s or early 90s. And that's with a sport that had an establish pro league dating back to the 50s. It takes a long time to establish a sport. Lacrosse has the same problem.

Always was weird to me that this was a predominantly northern sport since it's played outside. I think there are some high schools in LA now that have teams though so at least some kids have the opportunity to play now.

Lax is huge in Maryland. I mean, huge. Everyone plays. It's bigger than football. The best attended NCAA event? The lacrosse final four. Not basketball, not even a bowl game. But the three day extravaganza of lax in Baltimore. Lacrosse is pretty big in Long Island and Massachusettes as well. Other than that? Just small pockets around the nation, usually where private schools are big.
