You're seriously going to argue that NASCAR isn't a heavily regional "activity?" (i refuse to call something that doesn't require athletic ability a sport) It's definitely skewed to the south, not to say that there aren't interests outside the south. NASCAR is not huge on national scale. Deal with it.

Soccer is growing big time. And now you can watch the top league games from across the pond every weekend. And the MLS is passing NBA in terms of attendance. Also for our ADHD society, the game is guaranteed to last not much longer than 90 minutes. And for the people that call it slow and boring, you need to watch the game's best play and then get back to me. If you dont like it, fine. But to paint it with a wide brush like that is ridiculous. And I will be all for more rugby exposure in this country. Definitely needs to start at the youth level as said. Many adults like me have a very simple understanding of the game and its rules. That's my biggest roadblock.

Rugby's laws make it a way safer sport than football. Wrapping up, instead of shoulder checks, is the proper way to make a tackle and the fans still get the big hits they want to see. No tackling above the shoulders is something I think football is trying to do anyway. Another thing to consider is since there is no blocking you dont get those types of injuries as frequently as you would with football. Obviously, I am a bit biased to which sport I would like to see take over should football go away, but it is an exteremly fast growing sport in the US and can fill the void of contact sport the way no other sport could.

When you consider that the crowd and fans of those "activities" are 95% retard, then you compare that our country is mostly made up of retard (see election), then it kind of makes sense.

I see wht you're saying. I love baseball, but it's about perception. The perception of both baseball and soccer is that it's slow and boring.

This is the biggest thing Rugby has going for it. Basketball is definitely declining and the weakest of the 3 I listed in the OP.

Stop trying. The only people who think NASCAR is "HUGE" in America are NASCAR fans.

no way they wear those Larry bird-like shorts.
The shorts aren't quite as short these days. A large portion of the Georgia State University team is black. Morehouse College has a team now. There are tons of black kids playing in Atlanta area high schools, and my club just opened its new facilities off of Cascade Road in Atlanta. One of the things that we're going to do is expand youth rugby to the South Side of town, because most of the high school rugby is in the northern suburbs. We've seen a growth in inner city high school rugby around the country. New York RFC has had a very successful program over the last few years, and they recently had one of their kids participate in the Natal Sharks youth program. Their program is being hailed as one of the best practices to apply to growing the sport here. So don't sleep on rugby here. If NBC presents it right...

Nascar's problem is its lack of "Top 10" play potential. In sports that dont require machines, its amazing to see what some of these guys do. There isn't an oppurtunity in Nascar to be like, "Did you see what that guy did?!"

That was a joke, but i get your point.

Due to the similarity, I definitely underestimated rugby and should've listed it. As others have said though, the biggest roadblock is the rules and the understanding of the general public to those rules. You see most people in the US never played rugby and thus have no clue of the rules. That's why i think it takes longer than 20-25 years because most HS don't even have a team. Whenever HS starts carrying it, that's when you will see it rise because more of the population will understand it.

Oh, and we're getting more former football players moving over to rugby and LOVING it, especially former defensive players--most esp D-linemen.

Basketball and Baseball have the most to gain if football goes on the decline. IMO soccer will always be what it is in the US, and that's a second class sport.
