re: spinoff thread: personal stories of union good

my wife was in a union, and the workplace laid off 100% of the union members. The union did fricking jack shite to help them.

re: spinoff thread: personal stories of union good
I was making 1.25 an hour one summer in college and I got a union job, joined the United Mine Workers and was getting a base of about 7.25 an hour (to the best of my recollection) and could work two shifts a day (if I got a good co-worker)
to get serious overtime.

The plant was closed (Kaiser Aluminum Chalmette) several years later, put out of business by cheaper Soviet aluminum and their workers paradise.
