OLD:

-Merle Haggard attempted to rob a bank in 1957 and was sent to San Quenton for 3 years.

-Johnny Paycheck was sentenced to 7 years in prison for shooting a man in the head with a .22 pistol

-Barry Sadler was wounded by a pungi stick in Nam, returned to the U.S. and shot a rival country singer in the head and killed him in a dispute over a girl. Sadler was eventually shot in the head and killed while sitting in a cab in Guatemala City.

NEW:

-Kenny Chesney owns a 60' Sea Ray yacht and also has a home in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He spends time in the Caribbean and includes island-themed songs in some of his work, such as those on his 2005 album Be As You Are.

-Tim McGraw stated he has never been in a fight in his life and splits his time between mansions with his beautiful wife and children.

Is there little doubt why country music is no longer gritty and real? I am not advocating going to prison or shooting people but it is rather obvious that the old guys were hard drinking maniacs that wrote abot the lives the lived while the new guys sit on the beaches of Cancun and sip wine and I believe it has had a tremendously bad impact on country music. Am I alone in this belief?

Don't forget George Jones was once given a DUI ticket for riding his lawnmower to the liquor store while intoxicated.

Yeah, that's what I thought.

How about comparing a real country singer like Conway Twitty to someone nowadays.

Works the same for every genre. Look at old school rock bands full of heroine and coke and women and prison and rehab and look at the pussies making music today.

Same for rap and hiphop.

This is oh so ironic since im sure you can find many a old white man who will tell you that rap is nothing but a bunch of thugs.

you are manipulating the data...

- Police say country superstar Randy Travis walked naked into a Texas convenience store to buy cigarettes, touching off a bizarre series of events that ended with him being charged with threatening to shoot a state trooper.

From someone who has attended countless concerts in all genres of music over the past 30+ years, there is no better live performer with a better show or more solid voice who puts more energy, heart, and soul into each concert than Kenny Chesney. And he has the ticket sales from over a decade to back up that statement.

Aren't you comparing post success lifestyles to pre-success lifestyle though?

Cash/Jones/Johnny Paycheck, etc., probably lived pretty lavish lives after they were successful.

It's not like Chesney inherited that yacht.

New country(really pop) music is horrible in general.

In saying that:

One thing we forget to think about is back in the "Good ol Days" most of the music sucked as well we just tend to remember the songs we liked out of the 1000's that sucked so we just think it was all good. In reality it might have been a little better but still most of it sucked....

Also reportedly a closet homo.

I, like Peyton Manning, choose Outlaw Country on the Sirius/XM. New country music is really bad.
