It could be a trap to see who in the office the management can and can't trust. If no one has taken any of the danishes yet, then "operation sneaky danish" could have been leaked to a select few. Don't do it.
Find out who is in charge of kitchen pastries, and ask them what's going on with the big tray of danishes.

It's probably just a herd mentality taking place. Nobody wants to be the first.
If there's no note or anything on it, go for it.
If anyone gets pissed, just be like "uhhh, if you didn't want anybody eating your delicious pastries, you should have hid them or gave some kind of warning."
No note?
No office listserv message?
No problem.

The great thing about sniping food is it's easy to dispose of the evidence. Go down some of that sweet goodness and, if anybody complains, blame it on somebody else.

Or, just go take one, and if anyone stops you, say "so and so from XYZ company called and asked if I was enjoying the pastries. I felt that I should have one so I could answer him honestly."

I've got it. Convince a co-worker to grab himself one and grab one for you. Tell him they are "your treat" so he feels obliged to bring you one. Then, whoever might be watching only takes his name. Watch him eat his, and if he doesn't keel over they aren't poisoned. It's flawless.

Is it on someones desk or is it in the kitchen? 10:45 is kinda late for that stuff, especially if someone had already brought something in, people might be laying off since its so close to lunch. If its in the kitchen its fair game. You don't have a hot assistant to go fetch you one?
