100% shock. The fact that he actually came to and helped is somewhat impressive.

I still cannot believe that NFL players drive drunk with so many services offered to them. And its pretty crazy the family is allowing him to go to the service, I don't think I would have allowed him to go.

Honestly, these guys were best friends and roomates since college. my guess is the had a histroy of partying together. it was random chance that Brent happened to be the one driving that night....they both were likely intoxicated and chose to get in a car together adn my guess is they also frequently drove fast.

Their families knew each other well and they were like brothers.

This isn't like he hit some innocent kid on the street.

I think Brent needs to do time for his crime and he probably won't play football (his name is not Ray Lewis or leanard little or lawrence phillips or Pacman Jones) anymore.

But I have no problem with his team mates and coaches being there for him. they are not condoning what he did.

That lady needs to shut the frick up.

If I had been drinking and got in a crash and new my best friend was stuck in there, I wouldn't have a clue what to do.

Logic says go help him, but it's natural to freeze. Can't imagine the thoughts going through his head.

Oh shite, I just crashed.
Oh shite, I've been drinking.
Oh shite, I may have killed my best friend.
Oh shite, I could land in jail.
Oh shite, My NFL career is probably over

etc.

I think more often than not, there is too much of it shown. Of course I am a cold hearted SOB. Of course I never really gave much thought to the fact that the guy made a choice to get in the car with someone who was impaired. I just know I wouldn't be supporting someoen who was responsible for the death of a family member or teammate. At least not so soon after.

Don't think it's crazy at all. I would have done the same thing.

The guys were best friends. Wouldn't you assume that Brown would want his best friend at his funeral?

This. Most of us have all been just as fricked up or more so than our friend who we were totally ok with jumping in the car with. Not defending Brent at all, but both guys are now suffering from an equally bad, irresponsible decision.

meh, but the prison part. This dude is a repeat offender and he could have just as easily killed a pedestrian or someone in another vehicle. You can't let them off the hook for this.

yeah until i had read the link i thought the guy tried to do everything he could to help the man

didnt know he was basically forced to go back and retrieve him

But to be fair, we're talking about someone who was clearly in shock at the time, so to judge his actions at that point would be a bit unfair.

Yeah, that bitch comes off as a judgmental attention whore. You can't judge someone in the seconds following such a massive/absolute tragedy like this. We'd like to think we'd be quick to help our friend and totally disregard everything else that's happening...but you never know how you're gonna respond in that situation til it happens. Shock was probably a huge factor, not to mention he was probably physically fricked up as well, head injury etc.

She could have been a little more compassionate than demanding he pulls someone from a burning car while she "grabs a phone", not knowing if this guy is ok or not.

A friend of mine picked up 7 of his friends from a bar one night. They got turned around on a dark and foggy night. He pulled a u turn and his truck was struck by a rock truck. 6 of the passengers were killed instantly, and another left in critical condition.

The driver broke his pelvis, but was later found to be above the legal limit for alcohol.

In court, the families of each victim asked the judge for leniency.

Sometimes people understand that bad things happen. Sure, the driver was at fault, but they forgave him. Some people are able to see past the mistakes. The guy has his friend's death on his hands.

Sometimes that is enough punishment.

This. A childhood friend of my wife was killed in a car accident about 10 years ago when he got in a car with another friend who had been drinking. They were both drunk, and he was killed when the truck flipped. The mother of the boy who was killed stayed after the D.A. to drop charges against the guy. After about 7 or 8 years of postponements, and the guy driving doing lots of community service, AA meetings, etc., the D.A. dropped the charges. As bad as it sucks for everyone involved, he got in the car.

Brent is not in anyway responsible for Browns death. Brown is responsible for his own death by getting in the vehicle with him. Brent should be punished for the only crime he committed, that being a second offense DUI. Brent did not make Brown get in the vehicle, Brown made that mistake on his own. There are no victims in the situation other than Brown's family.

Forgiveness for drunk driving? Frick that. He could've killed a child, or a family, or me.

Well, we'd all care if he hit a child or a family.
