The basketball schools are not thrilled with Tulane and what they will do to the league's RPI

What in the hell is RPI? Apparently everyone in the world knows what this is but me. No one on the board asked about it and the article does not even bother to explain what it means. I hate acronyms so much, but especially when people just assume you know what they mean.

I believe it stands for Ratings Percentage Index. But it's basically a formula that calculates your winning pct, your opponents winning pct, and your opponents opponents winning pct, all to varying degrees, with other factors thrown in for home/away games, games vs RPI top 25, etc.

A formula that calculates how good you are based on your schedule and your opponents' schedules. It is used heavily in determining who gets into the tourney and their seeding.

By adding teams like Tulane, who are terrible in basketball, the basketball-focused schools are going to lose some points in their RPI - so they mad.
