There's a lot of great music from the Curtis Mayfield era - Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Bill Withers, Sly and the Family Stone, Otis Redding....the list goes on. If all someone knows of Marvin Gaye is Sexual Healing, they're missing a lot of great music. If you like the late 60s - early 70s soul sound, sometime you should listen to Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings - she's fantastic, and a total throwback.

Yeah all that stuff I have to thank Jim James for turning me onto.. he's huge on Sly and Curtis. My Morning Jacket has covered Marvin Gaye, Sly, and Curtis in concert.. This is MMJ covering Movin on Up (this was recent). LINK This summer they headlined their hometown music fest (Forecastle). They had a late night party on a riverboat after their headline set, they played with Preservation Hall Jazz Band and did a lot of old time jazz songs.. it felt like it was 1890. It was a great night.

My roommate made a 3Oh!3 playlist on Pandora. I hate 3oh!3, but I liked some of the other music that played on the station. I made my own and thumbs downed every 3oh!3 song and it has turned into a really good playlist - I officially thumbs downed every 3oh!3 song about three months ago.

That's awesome!! I love that song, and they did a great job of it. Preservation Hall Jazz Band is really good too - hard to go wrong with music from New Orleans. Are you a fan of JJ Grey and Mofro? I saw they're playing at The Pageant on New Year's Eve.That's a show I'd love to see.

Hadn't heard of them, but I just youtubed em.. turned off by the pukka shell/shark tooth necklace, then he sang... and by god did he sing. Very good.

Yep. I've been listening to them quite a bit lately too. I try not to look at what musicians look like or how they dress - I'm more interested in how they sound. He's got a great voice, and the band goes pretty easily from a swampy, southern rock groove to rock, to an almost Americana sound sometimes. Love it.

Actually sitting outside Mrs. Mizzeaux's job right now and Plumb - In My Arms Bimbo Jones Radio Edit came on. I had the radio really loud and appreciated this song for the first time since being forced to download it. Something to be said for this genre of music. Especially when it's played loud as hell.
