i don't think a 10-2 season is a failure. if that's the case lsu failed this year. LOL

Because Huey P Long.
Only real competition came from private, and that has been sliding ever since Tulane deemphasized athletics and left the SEC

You do realize that "big" is subjective?
Ole Miss and State have roughly the same amount of undergraduates (combined) as LSU.

South Carolina is really similar to Louisiana in that way.
All Louisiana has is LSU with a bunch of smaller in-state schools and South Carolina has the Gamecocks and then a bunch of nobodies
Pretty much. Clemson is to South Carolina like ULL or ULM is to LSU.

10-2 in the ACC is not 10-2 in the SEC
And that's even with the SEC being down this year....

i could see louisiana state poiticians making it impossible for other colleges in state to recruit players lsu wants b/c they want louisiana college to be able to compete nationally. it's a big enough state where they should have a consistent rival.

In that soft conference most sec teams would win a few of those games twice.
Posted on 12/8/12 at 9:10 pm to Dr.Tesla
That's not what happened at all.
It wasn't that they kept other schools down.
It's that LSU was funneled all of the resources.
So there is only one national level flagship uni.
Everyone else waters themselves down because there are so many 4 year colleges here.

i think sec is overrated. lsu would have lost two in the acc this year b/c their offense blows. you don't win games in the acc just with defense. you can win games scoring 14 points a game. that's the sec.

Tulane was a charter SEC member. We made them quit.
What's your point?

No.
Just no.
The only team that would have given this one problems would be FSU.
And that is only if we had to play them early in the year, before the offense started to click. We were decimated by injuries and had to figure things out on the move.

Politicians don't tell recruits where to go to school. Recruits want to play for the "State School", and that is LSU.
You mention Miss schools as a comparison to LSU, how about you go back 50 yrs and see where all our games were played with them...

We have a lot more than Mississippi and only 300,000 less than Alabama.
It's not population. It's how the school systems were formed.

i think you guys could lose to fsu, unc, gtech, nc state, miami, maybe even duke, b/c they are capble of scoring points and ur offense is stag.
u will lose to clemson. don't be bitching at me when you lose. u said the acc and clemson sucked, so when u lose, you suck.

Tulane, as noted was at one time the big in-state rival. But unlike a number of states which have two major public universities, one being a land grant university and one not, Louisiana merged the non-land grant school (LSU) with the A&M land grant school in 1870. After that, Louisiana never had two major public universities which would become competitors in sports.

Actually there was a time when tulane was better than lsu for a while and were ranked. But lsu has always pretty much been the big brother, such as u.s.c. to clemson.
