Gotta spare flatbed or maybe a CDL?

I got two things going on and both are only vaguely outdoorish, but I know the smart people are all huddled up at Harvard and the OB.
1. I need to get a CDL. Where do I start?
2. I also need a 18' or longer flatbed to go on a truck. Preferably a used steel or aluminum one, but a wooden one might do also. Know anyone who might have one?

You take the computer test at a main branch of the DMV. You have to schedule the driving portion with a driving school or a beverage distributor.
Practice with a trailer. Back up like 100 ft in a straight line, back into a 90 degree parking space, that sort of thing. It's really easy for some, but impossible for others.

There are different levels cdl aren't there?
I just need to be certified to drive a 33000 gvwr straight truck.
I used to have all this info, and will dig for it. The LA DMV site leaves much to be desired...

Yeah there is an A, B, C, and chauffeur. Class A without air brakes will cover you. I think you can get the study material online. I got it from my old company.

Thanks Bayou... I found the manual.
Okay... Who has that 18' flatbed truck body?

33,000lbs requires a Class"B" (cut off is 26,000 + Trailer less than 10,000 and is one of the general knowledge questions). Includes passing three different written tests (General knowledge, Air Brakes, and Combination vehicle) as well as pass three "Road Skills" tests - Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection, Backing (Straight, Blind Offset, and 90 Degree Docking), and an actual on the road test.
Class B requirements
Also have to pass drug screen as well as an annual physical.

A Class B is all you would need for a straight truck.just looked it up in my CDL manuel.

If it is a straight truck, Class B.
Class A covers combination, which is an 18 wheeler.

Thanks gentlemen. Do you do a driving test for a Class B also?
I guess you can't legally drive your truck to the test site before you have your license, huh?

No prob man. I missed the part where you wanted a flatbed truck. I was thinking flatbed trailer. Class B is all you need.
You cannot drive your test truck there. You will also need a DOT physical.

Class "B" will still have all three on site tests -Pre Trip, Backing, and Road skills test.
The Pre Trip inspections are what kill 75% of those that fail the driving portion.
Here is a YouTube link that Weill step you through it enough to pass. The most critical portion is the sequencing to the 3 Step Brake test
In Cab Inspection

You seem pretty well versed in cdl for a resident of The Vatican.
I was there this past summer... you have a lovely home.
Thanks, Saint!
