I don't understand why you have to tell them. Why not just let them figure it out and ask you? Nobody had to tell me. I figured it out and asked one day at the appropriate age.
Only reason I see for telling them is if they are too old. 7 is not too old.

Fwiw, I miss the shite out of Santa Christmases. I adored Christmas as a kid and now I couldn't give two shits about it. No more toys, no looking for Santa in the sky, no waking up at 4am to open presents.. It's not fun like it was.
It may have been a lie but it was a damned fun lie and I'm glad my parents didn't try to not participate in Santa.

Checking in from disneyworld on this. That person you said " I do" with has hate for reasons I can't explain. My ex wife goes out of her way to try to make my life miserable. I shower her with love makes her more pissed. Thing is now I don't have to put up with her shite anymore.

My kids believed in Santa until 11 or 12. Christmas wasn't the same once they found out about Santa.

I'd offer that a majority of the kids probably are just playing along by this time, probably been like that for some time in history. What does it matter to the adults if the kids believe or just fake it? Enjoy it while you can, because as its said earlier, its never going to be the same after that. So if your (mal)adjusted kids no longer believe in Santa once they turn 8, your Christmases will suck for the rest of your life. Wouldn't you like to extend the happiness of a childhood Christmas as long as possible?
