If you get into handloading, the possibilities for 300BLK are endless.

.308" bullets are one of the most numerous in the reloading market. You can go anywhere from about 55gr up to 220gr. Like I said, endless possibilities.

And if you can convert 5.56 brass to 300BLK, finding cases will be insanely easy.

No worries brah, you aren't hurting my feelings

As far as the TAR, it does have a quick release for the barrel, something I am excited about so I can add a 20 in barrel for longer range shooting. Looking forward to seeing if this is comparable, if so, I'll be looking into getting the paperwork for a suppressor.

Also, to you and the OP, I watched a ten minute video courtesy of burgeman386 that has blown my mind about the .300 blackout.

I need to do a lot more research, but I think I just became a believer.

I like the idea of quickly swapping to a 20" barrel for longer shots. A lot cheaper than a whole nother upper. I keep putting off on going and starting the process of an AAC SDN 7.62, thats a lot of cash that I dont have right now.

Bapple. You are 100% correct, however, you have to be careful with some of the .308 bullets because they wont expand at the lower velocity of the 300. I know that the pink and blue tip Barnes have these problems. The black tip was made specifically for the 300. Also, the Hornady Vmax and Amax work great out of the 300 too.

Huh?

The 300 BLKOUT takes exactly the same parts as any standard AR-15 except the barrel

Everything else is the same

Seriously, think the video was by Haley Strategic, called the year of the .300 blackout or something similar. Just had no idea that the round was capable of the ballistics he was talking about.

I think I had either heard some misinformation from another source, misinterpreted information that someone said (most likely) or that I saw some older information before ballistics had really been tested. Whatever the case, :mindblown:

Love mine. Very capable round.

I've only got a "Walmart Special" Nikon on it right now. Will buy better optics for it soon. Also waiting on my stamp to come back so I can pick up the suppressor for it.

I didn't even think of that but you definitely have a point. Most guns that shoot .308" bullets are pretty high velocity.

Kill Switch, beautiful gun. I looked all over for a WC upper and couldn't find anything at all. Again, beautiful.

Bap, I honestly don't know how much difference the velocity will cause on 308 rounds expanding out of a 300. Obviously, there will be some difference as in they will not expand as much, but how much less?

Barnes is leading the way for 300 blackout with their black tip ammo. It won Buller of the year in either 2012 or 2011. I expect other companies (Hornady) to follow suit, soon.

Sorry for grammar and spelling, on my phone.

Thanks guys.

One thing I really love about the Wilson is the weight. It's very light compared to the Sig556 I have. The Sig is heavy as shite.

There are already a lot of 30 caliber bullets suitable to use for deer hunting w/ the 300 BO. Before the days of the 300 BO, JD Jones (inventor of the 300 Whisper) recommended a number of different bullets for deer hunting. Personally, I was pleased w/ the Hornady 120 gr SSP (single shot pistol) and 125 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets; he also rec'd the 125 gr Speer TNT bullet. I believe Hornady uses the 110 VMax bullet in their factory load. I was a show on one of the outdoor channel where Bill Wilson (of custom 1911 gunsmith fame) had developed his own take off of these rounds; I recall was using a Barnes bullet of some sort. Sadly, the 120 gr Hornady SSP bullet has been discontinued, but there are still lots of choices available.

So are you the man to direct me to a lefty version of this?

That's why I want the TAR, fully ambidextrous. Tired of buying right handed weapons and dealing with brass and gas.

ETA I Dont think it will work on the TAR, I Dont think the gas system is included with the barrel change.

Thanks

I bought mine (complete rifle) at Bowie's Outfitters in Natchez. I'm not sure if he has any Wilson uppers. He had a few on the wall but not sure of manufacturer as I was looking for a complete rifle. If you are still looking let me know and I'll see what he has in stock when I go home this weekend.

Thank you for the offer. However, I purchased a complete Daniel Defense 300 back at the beginning of November. I believe I posted a picture of it on page 1. I am shooting irons right now but I am seriously looking at the Leupold VX-R 1-4 for close and medium range shooting. How large is the Bowies up in Natchez? I love the one here in BR.

TigerOnThehill, you are correct. There are several rounds that are readily available for the 300. However, I do not recommend just picking any .308 round willy nilly expecting the same expansion/separation. Hornady and Barnes are leading the charge for the 300 for sure. Well, Remington too but that is obvious. There are other bullets that work as well but the fact remains that they just dont work as well.

I actually just picked up 6 boxes of 125 grain Noslers to try and see how they perform. I cannot convince myself to get any 110 grain Vmax bullets while the reviews for the Barnes Blacktips are so great. But, they are also out of stock everywhere too. My go to are the UMC 115 grain for just about everything, the 125 Noslers will hopefully be my hunting round, and I still have not decided on my subs yet but the 220 Remington Match look promising.

Does this scope have 1/2MOA or 1/4MOA clicks? The big thing that screamed at me to not get the Leupold Mark AR scope was the fact that it has 1/2MOA clicks when every other scope on the market uses 1/4MOA clicks. It made no sense to me.

Just make sure you have that tight form of adjustment before purchasing.

When I made my comments about .308" bullets in a 300BLK case I didn't think about the characteristics of specific bullets. I guess you'd need a quicker-expanding round since it has much less velocity than your average 308, 30-06, 300WM, et cetera.

Barnes Blacktips are so great.

If these are as good as their TTSX, I don't think you can go wrong. Those things are amazing on just about every critter out there.
