would you rather have Hamilton for 3-4 years or Cano for 7-8?

Not a Yankee fan, but Cano is the better bet there.

Not a Yankees fan but if you don't say Cano you're dumb

Cano.
Not a legit question for me.

I think most baseball fans period would say Cano.

cano. no question.
hamilton would be back on the wagon within 1 week if he ever signed in new york.

Orioles fan, but there is no argument that could be made for taking Hamilton over Cano. Cano's production for a second basemen is unmatched.

when you are a Yankee fan, and you have seen what these long-term contracts do to your team at the end... having a 40 year old Cano making 20+ Million isn't very good for the team.
Having great production out of Hamilton for 3 years is a great option.. This is a legit question.
If Yankees sign Hamilton this year, they could theoretically have him, Cano and Granderson this year.
The problem is, does paying Hamilton, prevent you from signing Cano long-term with the impending 2014 budget.
Cano, imo, will explore free agency, and will likely sign somewhere else. So what options do you like for the team moving forward?

I would take Cano's production at second base over anyone's production in the OF. That being said, signing Hamilton does keep a steady ALLSTAR bat in the lineup in the event Cano walks.

the media there would eat him alive... could you imagine if he gave up dipping towards the end of a possible yankees title run?... would be epic.

120/6 would be fine by me. That'd lock him up til 37. He plays a solid 2nd base and swings a good bat. He's not getting anything over 7.
Hamilton is a head case. I don't wanna bank on him producing going forward. Yankees are looking 3-4 years down the road right now. Cano fits in those plans, Hamilton doesn't.

im really hoping they trade the strikeout machine.
wishful thinking though.

Well Cano won't get 7/8 so it is irrelevant

Sensibly, as a businessman, Hal wants to pocket the near $50 million that would come in luxury tax and revenue savings by dropping payroll below $189 million by '14.
"I'm a finance geek," Hal said in spring training 2011. "I guess I always have been. That's my background; budgets matter and balance sheets matter. I just feel that if you do well on the player development side and you have a good farm system, you don't need a $220 million payroll. You can field every bit as good a team with young talent."
