LSU under Les Miles is one of the most overrated teams in the nation. Rivals did an article a while back. Les disappoints yearly, finishing lower than where he starts in the preseason.

According to whose expectations?

An, based on this criteria, which coaches annually overperformed someone else's expectations?

Finally, it is good that the people that write the checks are the ones that set expectations. If the Rant made hiring/firing decisions we'd be hiring a new coach every year.

When will it ever stop? Seriously! Who made you or Rivals the know-it-all source?

Go back the last ten yrs and take the preseason top 5 every year. then chart where they finish the year. i'd be willing to bet most years that 3-4 teams finishng top 5 werent in the preseason top 5.

just this year you had michigan, oregon, usc, florida state, oklahoma, west virginia, all talked about in that top 5. LSU too. but if LSU wins their bowl game, they will be close. and that's with the injuries, honey badger, etc.

Wow..Holy fricking shite. Kinda hard to finish above expectiations when you are picked pre-season number 1 or 2 isn't it? Well, if Leslie himself had come out and set that expectation publicly, then it would be a "disappointing season". But he did NOT set that expectation. A bunch of voters and pollsters did. And the fans bought it. I think 10-2 was one hell of a season considering we were breaking in a new QB and had OL problems. So if you want to call LSU overrated based on ridiculous expectations from those on the outside, then go ahead.

Out of 8 years half is improved ranking. 2 we were stuck with Lee/JJ as freshmen/sophomores, 2 were still top 10 finishes. Unfortunate that what is actually true doesn't matter.

I'm not reading through 10 pages to see if this has been covered yet. And even though I doubt this thread has even a semblance of decent LSU talk at this point (I haven't read past page 1), I am going to post this regardless.

Here is LSU's preseason and end of season ranks according to the AP poll every season since Les has been here...

Year - Preseason Rank - End of Season Rank
2012 - 3 - Currently 7, pending bowls
2011 - 4 - 2
2010 - 21 - 8
2009 - 11 - 17
2008 - 7 - Unranked
2007 - 2 - 1
2006 - 8 - 3
2005 - 5 - 6

If we take 3 games as a "close enough" prediction, then Les' teams had outperformed expectations in 2006 and 2010, while falling short of expectations in 2008 and 2009 (note, I am assuming we win our bowl game and finish at least 6th, bc I'm an optimist). If we go off of straight rankings, LSU overperformed in 2006, 2007, 2010, and 2011, while underperforming in 2005, 2008, 2009, and 2012. Pretty damn even. While it would be difficult to argue that Les has his team overplay their expectations on a consistent basis, saying that they consistently underplay them is absurd, and shows a true, unrelenting bias that will prevent you from ever being objective in any discussion concerning our coach
