"Laid" by James

Ironically, there was a hit song on this record "Laid" but it's probably the worst track on it.

Anybody remember it/them? Simply incredible song writing. I saw 'em in '94 too and they put on a damned great live show.

I remember them in the early 90s... I thought Seven was a better record.. Like you said, that song was a pretty big hit (even before American Pie)... They were not my favorite britpop band of that era though...

Not only do I remember that but I saw the guy live touring to support it.

Mine would have to be Over the Rhine. They're an Ohio-based band that sounds a lot like Cowboy Junkies.

Over the Rhine - Give Me Strength

Over the Rhine - Born

I also love Curve from back in the day. Toni Halliday had a strange spell on me.

Curve - Coast is Clear

Curve - Fait Accompli HD [Official Video]

James always gets mentioned as a one hit wonder, but from the same album this is a pretty good song IMHO...

I'm sure tons of people are familiar with Brian Eno, but I never see anyone talk about his album Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy. It is brilliant, overlooked 70s art-pop (before he started doing ambient music for airports stuff).

Still played on Sirius. heard it last week. Better Than Ezra did a great version of it when they were still doing mostly covers.

Matt Nathanson covered it. It was in just about every American Pie movie. Pops up on my ipod all the time

when the band plays at red rocks (seats thousands) and sells out, I just can't say no one has heard of them.

My two favorites that no one has heard of are....
- Guts - Freedom - Trouble in France
Everyone from your sister to your cousin to your grouchy neighbor will like this album. Especially stoners. But non stoners won't get all the plays
- Saturday looks good to me - Lift me up - good ole fashioned twee.

Ben Deignan. Came to play in Huntsville one night and I really am surprised he's not on the radio. I even got to photograph his show in the hard rock in atl and they sold out the place. Great band that just gets everyone in a good mood.
