It's safe to assume that John Petruescu has become a huge fan of long-range fishing, having caught a yellowfin tuna that could be one of the largest--or the largest--ever landed on rod and reel. The angler, a first-time long-ranger aboard the Excel out of San Diego, used a live skipjack tuna to entice a yellowfin that taped out aboard the vessel at what its Facebook page is listing as 400 pounds. I've been told by someone closely associated with the boat, however, that this is a very conservative round number, and that the actual weight of the behemoth probably is much heavier.

One handed hoist on a 400# tuna, seems legit
Posted on 12/5/12 at 3:39 pm to Biff Tannen
how is that fish standing straight up like that?
Posted on 12/5/12 at 3:39 pm to 4X4DEMON
He's not hoisting it, he's propping it up.

You can not prop up a 400 pound fish with one hand. Sorry.

Either fake or he is one strong mfer.

that'd be some shite if he had it propped up and it fell overboard.

Assuming the guy is 5'8-6 ft, and weighs 160-190lbs, the fish is over 7 ft tall and has a girth at least twice what he does. That's easily a 400lb fish. It's also leaning on the rail of the boat.

are tuna that stiff though? how is it not folding over or slipping down onto the floor?

Towel on the nose of fish on a non slip deck finish. Fish is leaning on him and railing. Those boats have huge holds, it was iced and cleaned up before pic was taken. Like those can hunts in TX where they put the buck in cooler with head up and you take pic on hilltop next day.
