I took it as you plug the PS3 into the adapter via an ethernet chord and the adapter into the wall. On the other end the router is plugged into the adapter and the adapter into the wall. You're saying you don't need the adapter on the receiving end?

I guess there may be some different types, but mine plugs in to the wall and you run the ethernet cable from the router to the little box plugged in to the wall. At that point, all you do is plug something directly in to the wall (any power outlet) and it receives its IP address. When I get home, I can look and see exactly what type it is that I have. Since it came with the DISH setup I didn't really pay much attention to it.
