Why does it seem like LSU always ends up playing teams ranked below us in Bowls?

The last time I remember playing someone ranked ahead of us with Oklahoma in 2003. I know I must be forgetting some.

Because we're LSU and have finished the season ranked highly for the past decade?

Especially due to us getting overlooked for a quality bowl, we are in the top 7 BCS so 1-6 all have the 4 primary bowls wrapped up. Therefore, we are left with the scraps.

Plus, we are usually up in the top 5 anyway

Ohio St was ranked higher

This is obvious. When you are ranked high, most teams will be ranked below you.

We weren't even ranked. They were actually pissed to be playing such a "lesser" team

This is what happens when you play in the premier conference in college football.

Bowls have conference tie-ins.
