If you don't think sueing the parents of this kid won't have an effect on the situation, then you're wrong.
If/when you had kids and you got summoned to court because you were being sued for quite a bit, how would you deal with your kid that is at fault?

I meant the next time he is approached. All this talk about changing schools is fricking crazy. Does running away solve problems?? What happened to standing up for yourself or standing up for what is right? Running away and hiding from our problems is not a lesson I want my children to learn.

The kids that's getting picked on need to learn to fight.
Bullies have been around forever, and like someone else said, they only understand one thing. Fear.
The fact of the matter is that the skaterate doesn't even have to win the fight. He just has to fight.
It'll end then. All the lawsuits, parent conferences, and law enforcement in the world won't change the fact that the skate rat kid has now become a target, and he'll continue to be a target until he man's up.
It'll end about two seconds after he throws a punch back in defense.
Since the skate rat kid is apparently not real good at throwing hands, I'd suggest a sucker punch to the least tough of the bad homres.

Nothing new here.
1. Go to the school board or super of the school.
2. Document everything in case you need it later.
3. Teach the kid how to protect himself and he needs to know that protecting himself is okay and expected.
4. If all else fails then go legal route.
Note: Fighting back one singl time will probably be all it takes. Bullies are pussies and cannot handle a good arse whipping.

I agree with this. I got picked on when I was in elementary. Then I busted one of the guys noses. The constant picking stopped (for the most part). But boys will be boys. They will pick, and get picked on.
ETA: I got lucky hitting him in the nose since it was my first ever fight, but the blood pouring out of his nose got my point across to the others.

Self defense also has consequences because the school systems are dumb as hell. You can get jumped in a school bathroom, fight back to get out, and you still get in trouble for fighting.
