Poll: There was a poll taken. They asked one person. Tom Benson. People's tastes are their own, but people need to accept, on some level, all the costs and benefits it is of having him as an owner.
The major benefit is obviously having the team in NOLA. After that, it remains to be seen.

Benson seems like a nice enough guy, but Drew Brees falling in his lap has somehow turned him into the Rooney family or Bob Kraft in some people's eyes. For 20 years Benson ran one of the worst franchises in the history of the NFL and made some AWFUL decisions along the way, like selling us all out by handing over full control of his team to Mike Ditka. The guy is far from infallible as an owner.
In this particular case, either 85 year old Tom Benson is way hipper than all of us and sees something magical about this nickname, or he's 85 and...well 85.

taking dealing with = accepting, I agree, and that's why the one was chosen and the other was not.

Agreed.

People, I think, viewed Tom Benson as a savior in all respects, but he's as flawed as any man.

We have gotten the benefit up front, and now it's cost, cost, cost we have to pay.

We still have to remember the potential cost we definitely avoided (for now).

If it wasn't for Benson, this franchise would have been in Jacksonville like 20 plus years ago.

This is why I wanted Brass. It had the most national appeal while still retaining a local feel.

Amen brother, I also wouldn't mind Krewe but I don't think it holds up nationally as well like you say

who cares what the rest of the nation wants? If LA wants the Krewe, thats what they should go with. That being said, It doesn't make too much difference to me. All three of them are cool names.

Marketing 101... You want your brand to appeal to as many people as possible

Was just about to post something like this. If your brand is more widely accepted then things like clothing sales will go up, and that supports the franchise.

And once Davis is a finals MVP, everyone will look into buying his jersey, the colors and name could determine if they follow through

Saw this on HR:

Good thing with the name change is that Eric Gordon thinks he's been traded & will suit up tomorrow. #Pelicans

Well, the name sure as shite created interest on the board formerly known as Hornets Talk.

Brass was always my first choice, but I'm okay with Pelicans. As soon as the team has success people will get onboard. Thunder sucks as a name but people don't really think about it now. Pelicans has more positive potential, IMO.

I think it would be funny to track the activity of this board over time then add important events to the timeline.

Honestly, I'm more worried about the generic color scheme. We are going to go from one of the most unique schemes in the league to one of the most generic. You don't find a lot of shirts close to creole blue that aren't Hornets branded. So, you buy Hornets merch to rep at the game. With red, navy, and gold, I have about 2 dozen shirts that I can choose from without having to spend $30 on a Hornets shirt. It's the same reason why I thought black and gold would be a poor business decision.
