The "Top Critics" hated this film with a 49%.

I have no idea what film the “meh” crowd of critics saw, but it must not have been The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, because their complaints have no relation to the masterful filmmaking displayed in this prequel adaptation to director Peter Jackson’s blockbuster The Lord of the Rings franchise.
quote:
I think these critics made up their minds in advance how they expected to feel about the film, and they wanted to feel that way about it. So when they saw it, they looked for reasons to hate it or trash it — and when there were no obvious good reasons, because the film was just so good, they looked for any excuse (even weak and nonexistent ones) to insist their negative expectations were right. Because they weren’t about to admit that the film actually managed to exceed expectations in every way.
quote:
The Hobbit is a big, bold, beautiful triumph on every level, standing squarely on its own two feet rather than attempting to mimic the style and voice of its predecessors. It is easily one of the year’s best films, and should be a sure nominee for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, and Best Editing (Film and Sound).
I always knew Forbes was great magainze.

They're right that critics go into movies with what it should be and have mind their mind up to en extent before they even sit down. Just like every indie film gets a ton of love from every critic because it's indie, it has to be good.
But %68 is surprising.

Just watched it, and damn did I enjoy myself. I do have to conclude that anyone who gave it a crappy review just wanted to hate the film. I think that they'll come back around once they see this as a completed piece.
If I had one complaint, it was the appearance of the Goblins. They felt too fake, and they should have just made them look like they did with Fellowship of the Ring.

I was looking forward to your review and a couple others.
Seriously what a joke these critics have become. Everyone is glad they are doing 3 and didn't mind the length.
1 week ban bet that Roll Tide gives it a bad review.

Is any theater in Baton Rouge showing this in 48fps? I'm considering seeing this in 3D, which is something I don't normally do.

Honestly, to the assclown reviewers that gave it less than 2 stars, Riddles in the Dark alone constitutes a better rating. Jackson clearly wanted to do that scene masterfully, knowing that was the one scene he couldn't frick up in the trilogy and it was also the most likely scene he would frick up, but he absolutely knocks it out of the park.

Hearing its one of the best scenes in a movie this year
frick these critics. They need to get a real job to contribute to society. Them and TMZ people I grow hatred for more each day

Wondering this myself.

Im reading on this board that the 3D really didn't add much, wasn't all that great. I hope it doesn't detract from the viewing experience though. I can take a 3D film not being in your face for it's entirety but only some sporadic moments of actual 3D.

Honestly, while it won't happen, its going to be a tragedy yet again that Andy Serkis is not up for Best Supporting Actor. He absolutely blows it out of the water as Gollum, and really his performance as Gollum in all the films is probably one of the ten greatest performances in all of film. Yeah, I said it.
