So "An Enemy of Fate" ... so it was fated for what.. for the Observers to take over, for the world to plunge into chaos so the Observers had to come back.. to have the Fringe events that ended up tearing the world apart, to have a world that ultimately ending.. I wonder..

I think it's that the "fate" has something to do with Peter..."the boy is important". The "enemy" is Peter or Walter or September or William "Spock" Bell. Unless all of that never happened via the new reset...or Walter never left St. Claire's to begin with...
And why isn't the dog named "Etta"???? You know, to help us all remember that cute little girl???

My first inclination was to root for the Mayans, but why does the whole world have to end if a meteor strike to Miami can solve the problem with minimal collateral damage?
Or in Fringe terms, why blow up the whole room when you can use a homemade laser to cut through the amber and accomplish your goals?
