Don't turn this into the other thread. I want explanations...not funny stuff. I'm rolling as it is.

They beat Ok. State there in 2003, I believe. Also beat Cal there in the mid/late 90's.

Tech was holding out for the Orange Bowl. Rolled the dice and came up short.

It's just such a dumb gamble...seriously...the liberty bowl isn't sooooo much better than Indy bowl to take such a dumb chance. They got what they deserved. I pulled for tech all season like I do all la schools...but this past week turned me off big time

This. A lot of things had to happen for Tech to get to the liberty bowl. Most of them did but the NIU BCS pick screwed it up. Still it was a bad risk to take. Classic case of risk vs. reward. He risked a guaranteed spot in a bowl for something that wasn't a sure thing.

Delusion mixed with unearned arrogance. It's a Tech trademark. They really fricked up this time. Cheers LA Tech

Couple of times LSU played in it, it was like having another home game. Don't remember too many folks complaining.

I just dont understand people saying la tech is scared of ulm. When i was at, well, nlu the last few years we played tech we got our arse kicked. Arrogant by AD, but i do feel horrible for these kids playing for tech. I just dont find it funny, especially with seniors who most will never go pro expecting to play at least one more game.

My bad...it was Miami in 2003 Independence Stadium and Louisiana Tech have a long, successful history together as the Bulldogs have played 70 games in Shreveport, including four trips to the Independence Bowl. All-time the Bulldogs are 45-22-3 (.664) in games played in Independence Stadium. Northwestern State is the most common opponent for Tech in Shreveport as the two programs met 48 times with the Bulldogs claiming a 34-12-2 mark in those games and a 33-12-2 mark in Independence Stadium. Although the majority of the games that Tech has played in Shreveport came during the old State Fair Games against Northwestern State, starting in the late '30s and ending in the late '80s, Tech has played some other big-time college football games at the site. In the last two decades, Louisiana Tech has faced Northern Illinois (2008), Houston (1988), Maryland (1990), Baylor (1996), California (1997), Texas A&M (1999), Oklahoma State (2002) and Miami (2003) at Independence Stadium. Thrilling last-minute victories against California (41-34) and Oklahoma State (39-36) highlight the Bulldogs' successful history in Shreveport. In all, Tech has played 19 different teams at Independence Stadium, and the Bulldogs have appeared in four Independence Bowls, beating Louisville 24-14 in 1977, losing 35-13 to East Carolina in 1978, tying Maryland 34-34 in 1990 and defeating Northern Illinois 17-10 in 2008. Louisiana Tech opened the 2003 season at Independence Stadium as the Bulldogs played host to five-time national champion Miami on Aug. 28, 2003, in a nationally televised game on ESPN, which saw a Louisiana Tech regular season home attendance record crowd of 43,279. The Bulldogs have the chance to top that when Tech hosts Texas A&M in the 2012 season opener on Aug. 30, 2012. Independence Stadium originally opened as State Fair Stadium in 1925. It has gone through numerous renovations and expansions over the years with the most recent being the installation of FieldTurf in late 2010.

There is no misfortune. The tv ratings will be almost nothing. Hell! BCS schools playing in the game only draw 1.3's.I'm guessing with last year's major drop in tv ratings, a game with 2 Louisiana schools offered nothing to ESPN. The school will not suffer with in-state recruiting. Recruits from outside the state could not care any less about this issue. The school may lose 50k, maybe? If the Tech fan base is not enthusiastic about the bowl, neither side wins. AS for the Dykes comments, take them for what they are worth. Nick Saban stood before the mics and told you how great it was to be in New Orleans for the 2009 Sugar Bowl, The Bama players professed their enthusiasm in being there, Of course, we all know, they didn't show up and Utah rolled them like no other. Coaches have to say thing s they don't believe. Players do the same.
