BS, you may think that, but I doubt you could kill anyone with a hand gun, you don't have it in you. Comparing yourself to a guy that has the ability to kill his 'significant other' and mother of his newborn is silly.

Agreed. Love how liberals think the problem is guns and not the criminals. If you take all guns away, what's to stop criminals from using other weapons?

In the UK, knife crime has skyrocketed since the implementation of stricter gun control. Many politicians are now calling for stricter knife control.
quote:
Shadow Home Affairs minister James Brokenshire urged automatic jail for knife possession. He said: “It may be harsh, but it is necessary. “Lives are being lost and others ruined by Labour’s failure to deal with knife crime.”
They just don't get it. People kill other people. It's not the weapon's fault. Jesus.

I thought it was inappopriate for Costas to hijack a sports program to deliver a political op-ed and I thought it was in very poor taste. At least to my ear, I heard someone saying that someone else's daughter being murdered was not so much because of the murderer but because of a "gun culture." I think that borders on being offensive. Finally, even if you are for more gun control, this strikes me as a poor example to use. Domestic violence often ends in death when guns are not involved and did he not shoot her 5 times? This man was determined and could have killed her with any weapon or none at all. Something like the Colorado theater incident makes a better case because at least then, the degree of carnage was more directly related to the weaponry utilized by the murderer (# of shots,etc.).

This reminds me of the Clint Eastwood scene in Unforgiven: " It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have."

His final statement is akin to saying if the 9/11 terrorists didn't have airplanes, 3k Americans would still be alive. I don't care what laws are passed, if Joe wants a gun, then by God, Joe is gonna have a gun Bottom line.

right, except the entire premise of the statement was that I had to kill somebody. I really don't see what my ability to go through with killing somebody has to do with this, but whatever. If the mission is to murder, generally speaking, it's better to get a gun than a knife or maybe a spoon or whatever absurd thing you guys want to come up with to make your little point.

That said, if you think getting all bows and arrows off the street would have the same effect on the murder rate as getting all guns off the streets, then you are stupid.
But you're not taking guns off the street. You're taking them out of the hands of law-abiding citizens.

Oooh, that reminds me of a site I once read that listed all of the documented ways people have committed suicide. My personal favorite was hanging by convertible. A guy dropped the top of his convertible, tied one end of a rope around his neck. Tied the other end of the 50 foot rope to a big tree right behind his car. Got in the car and floored the gas pedal. When the rope went taught it popped off his head.

What Bob Costas should've said: "If it were not for football, these suicides would never happen." I love football as much as anyone. Player health is a real issue, though, that is being dealt with only begrudgingly. No one knows, yet, what caused this latest episode. Clearly, though, football related brain damage is driving violence and suicide in an escalating number of cases.

This may lead to liberals wanting to ban football. I'm sure plenty of libs are looking into banning it already.

It was, in fact, Jason Whitlock, himself no stranger to controversy. I like Whitlock and Costas - they're wrong on this issue. I don't remember hearing this type of rant when McNair's girlfriend pulled the reverse of this. It would have been wrong then, as well. The only thing curious about this is the timing. Were sportcasters calling for more gun control with the Rae Carruth situation?
