I actually thought the same thing, but I just saw it, it's fricking bad. LINK It's completely transparent he's reading a script in the beginning and one he had no hand in writing. Then he doesn't speak the words of the article as if he's quoting it, he just speaks the article as if it was a political stump speech, at fricking halftime. As if sports just isn't a big enough arena for costas's ego, just like sticking to reporting actual news isn't a big enough arena for NBC

Costas said "If Jovan Belcher didn't possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today." If you can't laugh your arse off at that, I don't know if you can be helped.

Actually, he was quoting Jason Whitlock (although he said he agreed). Second, although I don't "blame the gun" and I do hold the individual responsible, it may very well be literally true that without the convenience of a gun in a heated moment, he wouldn't have killed the girl or himself. And, yes, I own several guns. I'm just suggesting probabilities.

The U.S. is more homicide prone due to the heterogenus society... Not a belief, a fact

I disagree with that premise.

Yeah, Costas doesn't understand he was looney tunes and that it doesn't matter if he had a gun or not, he was still going to find another way to do the deed. Whether it be knives, a bat, pills, hanging or something else. If you're at the point of being willing to commit suicide, you gone and you're a lost cause. ETA: Banning guns will never stop someone from getting guns. Liberals are morons if they think banning guns will stop crime. It's like drugs, people will always find some. Ridiculous.

Sure. It may also be literally true that, without guns, the murder rate would be a bazillion times higher. There is a probability that either may be true.

That isn't what Coatas agreed to, and we really have no clue whether the gun made murder convenient or was just the closest thing at hand. Except Costas and Whitlock, they seem to have special powers. The problem for Costas was agreeing with something stupid to make a political point. It's kind of like saying if electricity wasn't around, Ted Bundy wouldn't have been executed.

Hmmmm, maybe Obama was right about people clinging to their guns and religion.

what does this mean? should people who want to keep a firearm in their home for self defense have wait for someone to break in, and then begin the 2 week waiting period so they can "cool down" and not risk making a rash decision? there is no such political stance that would have led to the gun being "unavailable"

I don't begrudge Costas for his fear of guns. I can't think of the mindset to believe that without a gun present, nothing would have occurred. And I agree with you in a sense this fear of guns is similar to the fear of drugs. It's like people blaming drugs for the problems the "war on drugs" actually causes. People are going to use drugs with or without a ban. People will kill, regardless of the implement.

Ok, Mr Costas. How you took that as clinging to guns is beyond me.

I have no idea how to parse that nonsensical paragraph. In any event, the only point I made is that it may very well be literally true that without the ease and convenience of a firearm being handy, the a-hole wouldn't have killed the girl and himself. I'm not advocating a fricking thing one way or the other.

Who knows? He may not have had any knives in the house.

Yep. Would you say that banning guns and drugs is like trying to legislate responsibility? I think that no gov't on Earth should be in the business of doing that.

Probably so. It's the belief that if you remove certain "things" from people that the evil desires that people have will go away. It's being responsible for people, collectively.

Eh, I don't think you, me or Costas are qualified to get in the head of a suicidal killer. They don't behave rationally. He didn't value her life, and he took it. Whether removing guns from the equation would help or not seems to be a stretch.

Yeah, ease of access is not a prime driver in murder or suicide

Yep. It's a pretty naive belief. It ignores human nature.

Yeah, I am kind of thinking that ending a life is the goal there.
