As much as I hate the mets it's impossible to not like this guy. I think once his career is done he might be there but he also seems like the kind of player to get lost in the shuffle.

no

and lifelong Mets fan here

but no. Maybe if he has 8 more semi great seasons but not yet

would need 3000 hits or some milestone number in all reality

but thank God they resigned him. And I am serious. Thank God

He hit .306 with 21 HR and 93 RBI last year.

That's HOF numbers to you?

Not to mention he's never led the league in any major statistical category, nor has ever ever finished above 4th in the MVP voting.

Only chance would be if he gets 3000 hits. Considering he's never gotten 200 in a season, I think it's unlikely. He'll have 1500 at 30 so he'd need roughly 175 for the next 9 seasons. Can't see it.

well it's a pretty premature thought

let's see how his next 8 go.

He was hitting .400 2 weeks into June if memory serves. When the team crumbled around him, he went to shite too

I wouldn't dismiss his chances since he can play

but way too early to say yes at this point

No. He's not even the best 3rd baseman of this era.

He's a Hall of Very Good player right now. Maybe he puts together some longevity stats, translates playing in the NY media market to continued prominence in the national discussion later, while other players in late career decline might fall off.

He's never been the best guy at his position, and doesn't look to be in the future. He's never won anything, and he's tied himself to the Detroit Lions of modern baseball.

Too early to completely rule this out. Take a look at the offensive numbers of the 3B currently in the Hall. Aside from Schmidt, Wright has a decent opportunity of reaching the numbers of several of the others if he has a healthy 10-12 remaining in his career.

No.

We're talking about people who wouldn't induct Ron Santo until he died.

Those numbers would put him as top 3-5 at his position ever year that's all it would take considering he's already had several elite years including 07 which is one of the best years ever for a 3B. Of course I am assuming the voters won't as retarded in 15-20 years.
