That was only 20 years ago. It's not like they're all dead.

Is it as simple as winning?

I don't get how you can stop being a fan of a sport.

I was a student back then and attended all the games. Dale Brown had a magic about him that made the games exciting. The players were iconic of their own accord. Rudy Macklin, Derrick Thomas, Howard Carter, Nikita Wilson, Don Redden, Chris Jackson, Shaquille, etc., all had their own individual fan support that brought in more fans to the games. It was always a packed house. Man those were the days.

No idea what Johnny Jones has to do to bring in more fans, but I believe it's coming.

See if we can sneak Shaq back on to the court and pretend he is some old looking freshman?

Seriously I don't know what to tell you

When you have a talented squad that includes Chris Jackson and Shaq, you're likely to attract a lot of casual sports fans.

I was in basketball band back in the mid 80's. I can assure you that games this time of year were just as empty back then as they are now.

Johnny Jones will build a great program. He needs some more time to do it.

I love watching "Tuba" play. Makes me proud to have been a band guy.

What do we have to do? You are seeing it now. Likable coach who works his butt off recruiting. Play an exciting brand of basketball. Promote the hell out of the games and have all kinds of give aways. Actually win games that you have decent crowds for. With the recruits coming next year hopefully we can string together a few tournament teams and then you are set.

Tonight was huge in getting students back at games. Compared to what has been at games it was nice to see at least some students there. Hopefully more and more will come now that they see it is entertaining.

I was one of those. We were hold overs from the Pistol Pete days. Gave up the tickets in 1988, and picked up LSU baseball tickets. Haven't been to a basketball game since.

LSU does a really poor job of letting students, faculty, and staff know of sporting events and promoting events to general public.

LSU could offer free tickets to part time students, faculty, and staff to help boost attendance.

The serious answer is to be a top 5 team nationally.

The vast majority of LSU "fans" are frontrunners, who buy tickets only because there is frick else to do in Baton Rouge (or the vast majority of South LA outside of NOLA.)

They want to be "seen" at the big events, and brag about "being at the game." That's why they leave in the third quarter of the football games. It's why they don't show up for basketball. It's why the vast majority of baseball games (aside from regionals and the season opener) are often half full.

Everybody wants TICKETS. Few have an actual desire to actually attend games.

Winning for a season or two with an exciting brand of basketball should do it. You aren't going to get that this year, because no one knows about us yet, but we should start getting pretty good crowds next year

When the football team sucked the attendance suffered.
