The charbroiled oysters can compete with Drago's and their BBQ gator sausage (you have to ask for the sauce, but it's worth it) hearkens me back to my childhood. Also, it's in a great location right off of Bourbon Street.

I think of it highly and my brother lives in NOLA. The only reason I don't live there is because I'm still at LSU.

I love Bullet's..I think it might be a little too adventurous for the OP if he's never been to NO. Although the people Ive encountered there have never been anything less than friendly

I have not. Also, aren't you the guy who was claming that Hooters had the best wings in New Orleans?

good wings are hard to find in NOLA Good seafood is not hard to find. there are prob 15 restaurants in the FQ alone that does seafood better than oceana grill and if you really like that place, dont search for the Kitchen Nightmares video. CAuse you wont eat there again

It's ok, I don't eat there much regardless. I'm too cheap to eat in the quarter. I generally chow down at Parkway or Liuzza's.

Places to eat: Gallitorie's (or however it's spelled), Commander's Palace, Brennan's, Couchon, Liuzza's, Parkway, Oceania's (The Old New Orleans Cookery), 5 Happiness, Emeril's Delmonico
I wouldn't eat at Brennan's, 5 Happiness (its just regular Chinese), and would never recommend Oceania. I would look at eating at Coops, Central Grocery for the muffaletta, GW Fins for the best high end seafood. I agree 100% with the Do's and Don't except Bullet's Bar isn't worth the trip unless you really want to see Kermit play.

The French Quarter Fest is the best of what all the Quarter has to offer, for free except for food & drink. Every major restaurant has a tent in & around Jackson Square, there are band stands every 5-6 blks through out the Quarter & you can hear the best of N.O. music free simply by sitting down on the curb or having a folding chair handy. A hurricane geaux cup from Pat O'Brien's, a pound bag of pistoches/a muffalota from Central Grocery, sit down & eat/drink like royalty & it lasts for 4 days & nites. Mite need to book now, as it's a major attraction now. But as noted, wait too much later than May & you get the summer heat & humidity. It's a shorts & T shirt wkend & while being family friendly, it's also a great adult getaway wkend. BTW: Culotts's is a swingers club.

I just googled the Fest & it's early this yr, April 11-14. There are several good links to what the Fest is all about. Jazz Fest is the first wkends or so in May & hotels do book up fast for that international happening. Well worth if it music is your thing. Catch some great music on a Fri or Sat or Sun & then enjoy the Quarter for the rest of your trip.

Pick up a Muffuletta, Zapps and Bargs from Central Grocery, enjoy it sitting on the levee.

did anyone mention trying a Sazerac cocktail at the Roosevelt? that's unique to NOLA, right? I second the suggestion about Central Grocery muffaleta and sitting on the levee. Get a praline for dessert. I would also do bananas foster cooked tableside a flambe' at Arnaud's.
