so if its the same thing why does it matter what you call it? and plus even if you do change the name does changing the name change the idea of the christmas tree change what it represents, change what religion its tied to? atheists who push to have the name of Christmas tree changed are just playing name games, the name of something does't really have an impact on what it is and what it means to the people who put it up. just like i wouldn't change the meaning of a crucifix if I said its a couple sticks with some dude on it. so either you must be for a ban on Christmas (holiday) trees in government buildings or not.

I've noticed atheists tend to get angrier and less rational around the Holidays. Perhaps it is because this time of year highlights how empty and meaningless their lives really are.

According to Bill O'Reilly, govt. endorsement of Christianity is OK because...Some of us don't want to live in a theocracy
I know, Doc. That's the point that I just made. Nws that we HAVE been living in a relative *theocracy* for the past couple hundred years; at least according to the prevailing Progressive political metric. But I suspect that when the 'experiment' is over, men like you and me will agree that it is damn near impossible for govenments to govern individuals who are more inclined to follow Nature...than...what? Patriotism? Community spirit? Morality...whatever that is. Rather than to believe that they are eternally accountable, and able to live and prosper according to the morality (or immorality) of their choices? I think that if you take away the very concept of an eternal and accountable soul...all that is left is NOW; and a sure end to that now. What manner of psychological dynamic would that create in relatively simple-minded individuals? Pretty easy to imagine. Eat, drink and be 'merry'. And compete for the ability to do so. We could go forward into the subjective abstract quagmire...and we have already. Water under the bridge. Suffice it to say that in my own mind, I have Spiritual/philosophical answers that work for me...but won't work for others. I'll bear witness to what I believe to be good and true...but I would never support a Government that FORCED an individual to believe contrary to their chosen values/beliefs. Only a Government that presented BOTH SIDES, as a matter of civic education in schools as a 'promotion of the common welfare'. Let each individual know BOTH ALTERNATIVE views...and then let them freely choose on the basis of an educated choice. Ignorance...is costly. If there is a God...that would be it's preference. Ecucation...and choice. Know the Truth...it sets you free. Eternal existance...eternal non-existance. True sovereignty. You and me are the arbiter of our future and current reality. Fair enough.

That Silverman guy last night said he was ok with the tree except that it was called a Christmas tree. He would be ok if it was called a winter solstace tree. The dude went on to say how horrible it was that he was forced "not to work" on Christmas day. I just thought the guy was a hypocritical a-hole.

I just watched the vid in the link and thought this guy O'reilly was interviewing looked foolish. This whole pc garbage and attack on Christmas is just stupid imho. But I disagree with O'reilly too, Christianity is a religion.

To be fair, O'Reilly also came off as a douche in that interview. I'm really not sure who was more mad between the two of the them. I thought Bill was going to poke him in the eye at one point.

So you'd be cool with Muslim prayers before public high school graduation by the principal correct?

I think we have different ideas of the govt endorsing a religion. Why don't we do high school graduations in spanish or french? Same argument right?

Which means he will NEVER be invited to appear on O'reilly's show ever again, and O'reilly will probably want to fire the producer who booked him.
