If I remember correctly, their reactions were very similar to those of this board. A vast majority were actually happy he was leaving. My question is simple. Is that accurate? Also, am I wrong for thinking that Gundy has turned Okie Lt into a much better program than what Les managed?

FWIW... I don't think we should fire Les. I just won't shite my pants like a little girl if he decides to graze on other pastures.

Les was the Gerry Dinardo of Okie State. He got no credit for what he built and the next guy came in and took it to the next level.

Okie State is a step below LSU

He came here because it was a better opportunity and now he's at one of the Top Football Programs in the country.

He's won a NC and played in another

What exactly has Gundy done?

I'm not gonna call you names but how do you determine a majority? Are you going door to door with a polling service?

FYI I remembered a mixed reaction. Hurt feelings etc. LSU was a step up...OSU fans knew their place.

Miles record at OSU was almost identical to Jimmy Johnson. Jones followed Johnson and had some good success for a while. Gundy is doing the same thing. OSU is a damn hard place to win when you have OU staring over your shoulder all the time.

Les was a 7-5 coach getting blown out by Ohio State in his bowl games.

He comes to LSU with vastly better talent and remains a mediocre coach.

Their fans do not dislike Miles because he left for LSU, it was how he left that upsets them.

Okie State wasn't jackshit until Les turned them around and historically is barely above .500.

1) Boone Pickens is the real force behind Ok. State's resurgence.

2) Miles took over a 4-7 team at Ok. State in 2001.

3) Ok. State went to three straight bowl games in Les' last three years there.

4) He did this in a Big XII conference with more elite competition. Oklahoma was one of the best teams in CFB at this time. Texas was a perennial top 5 team. Nebraska played in the championship game the year Les took the reins. Texas Tech was becoming Leach team we all came to know.

5) Gundy was Miles' OC and benefited from Miles' recruiting pipelines. Gundy was literally following Les' trail in the case of players like Dez Bryant and Perrish Cox.

Prior to last year the only thing people knew about Okie lite was "I'm a man, I'm 40." By the end of next year, it will be that way again.

All good coaches can get a flash in the pan season, when it all falls right. The great coaches can sustain those seasons. Gundy can't sustain, Miles can.

My interpretation is you are incorrect.

Les was the ONLY Big 12 coach to consistently beat OU.... he did it twice, as I recall and had a big lead in the 3rd game. NOBODY else could touch OU at the time in the Big 12.

To say a "Vast Majority" of fans were happy he left is dead wrong... and to say that's the case at LSU is dead wrong too.

The only ones at LSU that would be HAPPY are a Vocal Minority -- and they are just plain dumb.... if you are among them --- sorry, but you are dumb too.

LSU backs up a LOT when Les Miles leaves - sorry but that's a true statement. My opinion, yes, but a true statement and I for one am VERY glad that LSU's AD and administration have more business and common sense than to listen to a vocal minority of idiots that think Les underachieves.... when reality is --- he's IMPROVED (not maintained) virtually every aspect of the Program he inherited from Nick Saban.

Nick did great things .... but when he left all was not perfect... nor is it today... but again in my opinion Les has IMPROVED the program on several levels.

1. Character and graduation rates
2. Academic performance
3. Winning Percentage
4. Consistency
5. Stability
6. Profitability
7. Talent level* (maintained - b/c Nick and Les are pretty much at the same level as far as LSU recruiting -- and that's "Top 5" nationally.

There are probably others too -- but I think these are the ones that matter to the AD and the administration and they are all BETTER now than at the end of the 2004 season... BETTER - not maintained -- built upon and improved.

eh, I dont think Gundy is anything special. I think t. boone pickens is the one to credit for Okie St.'s continued prominence in CFB.
