No but thats where some of the kid went......

And the number was way more than 15%. And that was just who was getting held back in 6th grade(at the time)

Which I think 6th is the latest you can hold them back now....

They are bot alone though. Saw many from a few other places that didi the same thing...

5th is the latest. If it was LT, there were far fewer than 7.

There...FIFY

If OCHS is recruiting, it's not doing a great job. They are a little like Parkview and Notre Dame. Woodlawn and Crowley ain't losing because of players they lose to Parkview and Notre Dame, respectively. Those schools get them in early, teach the system and they win big. Then, generally, after high school, their best players go sit in LSU's student section and sing vulgar lyrics to "Neck" with the rest of the students...

What I'm saying is, they ain't winning because they're stacked with prospects. Maybe a few state school guys, and that's it.

Got you beat, two teams from the same school district will win state. Curtis and Scummel.

I always assumed Curtis was in the Riverdale school zone. Are they both in East Jeff?

OCS is the new evangel in 1A. They are able to draw kids from all over the area.

Haynesville has to face WSJ first, but I think they could challenge OCS.

I'm not saying HHS can or will beat OCS if they meet, but but it's always hard to count them out...it's seems they have the knack of being able to find a way to win lots of the time.

They dont recruit...much...the out of parish families you talk about want their kids to go to private school..OCS is the closest one in their area...they are not violating any rules...and theyre far from evangel

re: 3 Teams from 1 Parish will win State.

I think some people confuse drawing kids from a large area with recruiting. I've heard this a lot about Notre Dame in Crowley. They'll routinely get kids from Rayne, Jennings, even Welsh (LSU has a walk-on from Welsh who played at ND), maybe even Duson. For people in those communities who want to send their kids to Catholic school, Notre Dame is the "local" option.

Ever since Goretti closed in Lake Arthur, Jeff Davis Catholics have been split between Notre Dame and St. Louis in Lake Charles.

That doesn't mean those kids have been "recruited." The notion that a parochial school should only draw kids from the public school zone the parochial school is in is absurd.

Now, if a good football player from a public junior high in Jennings decides to attend high school in Notre Dame, that's when it might be recruiting (it isn't necessarily recruiting though).

Ethically, to me, sometimes recruiting isn't such a terrible thing. For example, if I have kid who's smart and I live in a district that doesn't offer a lot of AP courses while the next district over does, I'm going to try to get my kid into that other school district through any loophole I can find.

Now, can you blame the parent of a good athlete for doing the same for his kid's athletic ambition?

It's a fine line. It's dirty when a school actively seeks players. But I'm OK with it when parents want their kids to go to the best school for their kid and they pursue the school.

I've heard that about the Fitzwater kid at Calvary (although I can't varify it). I've had some folks from Shreveport tell me that Calvary, honest to goodness, doesn't care to try to be another Evangel, but it will try to have a good "system" team. But when a 6-6 strong-armed quarterback from Texas shows up his parents say they want their kid to go to your school, what, are you supposed to tell them 'No you can't come here?"

It's not always black and white.

Except at Catholic, where they are all white except for the few black players they recruit

Just kidding Catholic folks.

Didn't OCS send a few guys to LSU who ended up in the NFL and isn't the guy who may start centerfield this year for LSU baseball from OCS or is it Ouachita?

Mark Laird and yes he's from OCS.

Sharp was 20 years ago Neville Eric Edwards was the TE. There have been a few baseball players. Bradshaw was from WM but played at OCS.

Well, I'll say this. They're no Cedar Creek with a freaking carpool from Monroe to Ruston, but they def get kids from Union and Caldwell. "Recruiting" has definitely decreased the last 4 years as Sterlington's program has regressed.

Oh, and OCS holds back a ridiculous amount of kids. For "academic reasons?" For athletic reasons, definitely.

As an alum I can assure you that OCS does no active recruiting. Are there kids who live out of district who go there? Yes. However it is for the environment of the school and its academics, not athletics. Their entire families go there and not all are athletes. 95% come to OCS prior to high school.

As for the holdbacks that is completely true. I didnt, but there was an absurd amount of holdbacks and it was for sports. It was always guys and it started as 8S went to 5T and then further back as to avoid the rules of the LHSAA. IMO it only made a difference in their early years as they got some playing time early as freshmen but as the other kids hit their growth spurts they caught up by jr and sr and the holdbacks were no longer the standouts.

To sum up OCS recruiting: false, Holdbacks true.

In fact OCS was the victim of WM's recruiting. Willis Britton and Andrew Whitworth for starters. I believe Banks also started out at OCS if my memory serves me right.

If Whitworth had stayed with them the oline would have had included Niswanger Whitworth and Hurley all of which were scholarship LSU players 2 of which were starting NFL linemen.

Wouldn't you expect kids from a town called "Church Point" to go to a church-based school?

Honestly, I didn't know if CP kids would go to St. Ed's, Opelousas Catholic or Notre Dame. They're kind of out there in no-man's land.

But it's also hard-core Catholic country so I'm sure lots of people want their kids at one of those schools.
