Seems I remember they were upset with the choices and just refused an invitation. Maybe the Cholly Mac era?

Won't ever happen again. LSU needs the money.

Thanks...I thought so. I don't remember if they had an actual offer from a Bowl or they just withdrew their name before the selection process?

Yep and it was Notre Dame's fault.

The seniors decided that they did not want to go to a lesser bowl so they voted to stay home.

The players all got a cool little trophy with the season schedule, the record and a screw attached to the plaque.

My dad still has his

I love it, too. If I don't get my way I will just quit. Reminds me of someone I know. Oh yeah, it's my three year old niece.

No it wasn't. It was the Cotton Bowls fault. They could have STILL taken LSU but decieded not to.

Sounds about right. Bringing kids up these days to have no integrity, false sense of achievement and entitlement, underachieving is ok, blah blah blah.

Ha! What about my post suggested I am a spoiled rotten brat that quits when I don't get my way. I am not the LSU fans glorifying a team that took it's ball and went home. Sounds like you belong in the same boat as my niece. I think she's a spoiled rotten brat when she does that. I would tell her if she can't win the big game at home she doesn't deserve to get all the attention.

If I remember correctly...

Notre Dame did not go to bowl games back in the day. For whatever reason I don't remember.

One specific year at the last moment, ND decided they wanted to go to a bowl game and they were awarded LSU's spot in a premier bowl.

LSU got the arse and decided not to accept a lesser bowl bid..

I think this is how it went down.

I recall ND declining the Indy bowl in Holtz's last year.

I think they refused a bid Jerry Stovall's first year.

There is some revisioist history going on in this thread.

I believe the way the story goes is LSU was offered a bowl (don't remember which one) -- but decided to decline, BELIEVING they would get the Cotton Bowl invitation..... however, breaking their (then) tradition of not playing in bowls, Notre Dame accepted an invitation to the Cotton Bowl and LSU was left out.

However -- keep in mind, there were only about 7 to 9 bowls back in those days.

It was not a reaction by LSU and not taking a bowl .... it was a decision to hold out for the Cotton Bowl bid --- which did not come due to ND accepting.
