Chambliss is up in 2014 and barely won in 2008, and needed the help of Sarah Palin to squeak by. If he caves in on this, he is writing his death sentence, especially when someone like Allen West can beat him in a primary.

At what point do the conservatives or libertarians abandon the GOP and go 3rd party? (This would mean demos in charge for life of course)

They should agree to a plan that further directs our country towards insolvency because of what? A bunch of morons got bussed to a polling location and were bribed with a $5 foot long to pull the blue lever?

Baloney. Chambliss's constituents don't want to pay higher taxes, and neither do you.

No, I think that people are saying that they should let Obama get his way. When it does not work - and it won't - then say "I told you so" and take over. Democrats cannot govern if they are not blaming everything bad that happens on someone else or on them not getting their way. They had both branches of government for 2 years and a fillibuster-proof majority in the Senate for part of that time and accomplished nothing but a stimulus that did not work and a Health Care plan that is a disaster. The Democrats have done nothing to help us, but they have effectively blamed Republicans for everything as they are aided by their media machine. So, just step aside and let them wreck the place. There will be no spending cuts. Everyone knows this. Tax increases will only add about $500-600 billion in revenue. We will still run historic deficits that will only increase as the economy goes into recession again. Then, the revenue will decrease and spending will go up even more as we try to do more stimulus spending. By the end of Obama's second term, I would not be surprised at all if we are running $2-2.5 Trillion deficits. Somehow, the Democrats will blame Republicans for merely existing, though.

Working with the opposition is in the constitution? Please cite the section because I can't find it in my copy. We could just go with no loyal opposition and absolute unmitigated supreme power (North Korean model).

This is so fricking stupid. Did this work for the last 4 years? Obama pretty much got his way, it didn't work, and he was re-elected. So, you hit the gas towards insolvency in the hope that, maybe, this time, the media will call a spade a spade and the American electorate will figure it out? Again...fricking stupid.

Agree. The "cuts" will be reduced growth. The "rich" is everyone else.

Actually, a major narrative of the Obama campaign was that the recovery would have been much more dramatic if the Republicans hadn't fought him. This was a big theme with Paul Krugman in many of his NYT columns.

FIFY Got the stimulus Got the auto bailouts Got Obamacare Got the raising of the debt ceiling, with no immediate cuts Got 3 CRs based on his insane 2009 budget Issued shitton of regs The ONLY thing he did not get that would arguably have an effect on the economy was cap and trade, and that probably saved his ass
