The closest we have come was in the American Spring of '69. People gathered to show support and opine in great numbers. Revolution was not just a Beetles song. It was as real as you are now. With the exception of maybe Rex. Just kidding Rex. The government was real nervous about what was transpiring and the volume of people involved in trying to bring about change. I believe that those events like Woodstock and the May Day demonstration in DC were significant enough to cause the government to heed the warnings and take action. The illegal draft did end and has not been utilized since. The war in Vietnam was brought to a halt sooner than most military and political minds would have liked. It did leave Vietnam to the whims of the communists. Change through actions such as protests takes as much courage as fighting physically. The OWS folks were a different breed with little substance.
