Sorry for the hydrating remark.... I meant don't over hydrate. If you already drink water on a regular basis you shouldn't have a problem. If its a worth a shite race they will have plenty of water stations and you should be able to switch b/w water and some type of Gatorade style drink. Another tip is, don't use the energy gels and other forms of energy during the race if you haven't yet. Could also upset the stomach.

I thought that's what you meant. Most people don't pay attention to hydration as a whole. It doesn't start the morning of a race, it should be a conscious part of everyone's lifestyle.

quote: Sure you do. Eat the leftover turkey and eat some good pastas. And not sure about the don't worry about hydrating because that's not correct. But hydration is a constant and should be an everyday thing not drink a gallon of water just before the race. This will ensure cramps and need for urinating. Carry a small bag of almonds or a gel pack or two. Half marathon is quite a run for a lot of people. I did one a decade ago and my wife runs them pretty regular.
None of this. You don't really want a lot of complex carbs right before you run. Eat a lot of fruit and fruit juices up to the day before. Carb up but not on Pasta's and rice the day before. Go to runners.com or go see Jenny at Varsity sports if you want a more in depth break down.

Red beans no rice is what I have the night before with an apple. I give myself 12 hours before race time. Lots of fruit the week before. A little pasta wouldn't hurt but that would not be my focus.

Interesting. Never would have thought about red beans. Been a long time since I was a runner and when I did it was all about pasta.
Those were the days when Jenny Peters was running around BR with some kind of oxygen tank to prep for some race. Did she try the ironman at one point or was that Jan Ripple?

I am not sure if she did or not Martini. The newer philosophy's I have read lean more to easily digestible meals the day before a race and tons of fruit/ fruit juices and water as well as over salting your food race week.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll just kill the left overs and drink plenty of water, and toss in fruit and yogurt for snacks. I'm running the BR beach half-marathon dec 1.
